All events take place under the watchful eye of Almighty God. Consequently, no trials come to us without His knowledge. All blessings are potential doors to trial. Men may be drowned in seas of prosperity as well as in rivers of affliction. Temptations and trials lurk on all roads. Because this world is under the dominion of Satan, we are surrounded with dangers. Yet, no shower falls unpermitted from the threatening cloud; every drop has its order before it descends to the earth. The trials which come allow us to prove and strengthen our faith. By them, we may illustrate the power of divine grace, test the genuineness of our virtues, and increase our spiritual energy. Our Lord, in His infinite wisdom and superabundant love, sets such a high value upon His people's faith that He permits them to experience trials which strengthen their faith. You would never have possessed the precious faith which now supports you if the trial of your faith had not been like a fire. You are a tree that never would have rooted so well if the wind had not shaken you and made you take firm hold upon the precious truths of the covenant of grace. Worldly ease is a great enemy to faith. It loosens the joints of holy valor and snaps the sinews of sacred courage. The balloon never rises until the cords are cut. Testing accomplishes this sharp service for believing souls. While the wheat sleeps comfortably in the husks, it is useless to man. It must be threshed out of its resting place before its value can be known. It is good that the righteous are tried for it causes them to grow rich toward God.
9월 3일 (저녁의 묵상)
○ 제목: 여호와는 의인을 감찰하시고.
○ 요절: "여호와는 의인을 감찰하시고 악인과 강포함을 좋아하는 자를 마음에 미워하시도다."(시 11:5)
모든 사건들은 전능하신 하나님의 감찰하시는 눈앞에서 일어납니다. 따라서 우리에게 오는 어떤 시련도 주님이 다 아십니다. 모든 축복은 시련의 문을 통과해야 합니다. 사람들은 고난의 강에서는 물론 번영의 바다에서도 빠져 죽을 위험이 있습니다.
시험과 시련은 모든 길에 잠복하고 있습니다. 이 세상은 사탄의 지배하에 있기 때문에 우리는 위험들로 포위되어 있습니다. 그러나 어떤 소나기도 험악한 구름으로부터 주님의 허락없이 떨어지지 않습니다. 모든 빗방울은 그것이 땅에 내려오기 전에 주님의 명령을 받습니다.
하나님으로부터 오는 시련들은 우리의 믿음을 증거하고 강화시킵니다. 시련들에 의하여 우리는 하나님의 은혜의 능력을 보여주고, 우리의 덕성(德性)들의 진실성을 시험하고, 우리의 영적 에너지를 증가시킵니다.
무한한 지혜와 넘치는 사랑 안에서 우리 주님은 그의 백성들의 믿음에 매우 높은 가치를 매기셔서 그들의 믿음을 강화시키는 시련들을 그 백성들로 하여금 겪게 하십니다. 만일 그대의 믿음의 시련이 불과 같지 않았다면 지금 그대를 지탱해 주는 소중한 믿음을 그대는 결코 소유하지 못했을 것입니다. 만일 바람(시련)이 그대를 흔들지 않았고, 그대로 하여금 은혜의 언약의 소중한 진리를 굳게 잡게 하지 않았다면 그대는 결코 이토록 잘 뿌리내리지 못한 나무일 것입니다.
세상의 평안은 신앙에 커다란 원수가 됩니다.
그것은 거룩한 용기의 용맹의 관절들을 느슨하게 하고, 경건한 용기의 힘줄을 툭 끊어 놓습니다. 풍선은 묶어 놓은 끈을 자르지 않는 한 결코 날아오르지 못합니다. 시험(testing)은 믿는 영혼들을 위하여 이런 날카로운 칼질(풍선의 줄을 끊기 위한 칼질)을 이루어 줍니다.
밀이 껍질 속에서 편안하게 잠자고 있는 동안, 그것은 사람에게 소용이 없습니다. 밀은 그것의 가치가 알려질 수 있기 전에 먼저 타작되어 그의 쉼터(껍질속)에서 나와야 합니다. 의인들은 시험을 받는 것이 좋습니다. 왜냐하면 시험은 하나님을 향한 그들의 부요를 자라게 하기 때문입니다.
