Evening
“And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor?”(Jeremiah 2:18).
By a variety of miracles, mercies, and deliverances, Jehovah proved Himself to be worthy of Israel's trust. Yet, they forsook their true and living God and followed false gods. The Lord constantly reproved them for their unfaithfulness. Our text contains one instance of God's reasoning with them: “That hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of the muddy river?”- for so it may be translated. “Why do you wander afar and leave your own cool stream from Lebanon? Why are you so strangely set on mischief that you cannot be content with the good and healthful, but instead follow after that which in evil and deceitful?” Is this a word of warning to the Christian? O true believer, called by grace and washed in the precious blood of Jesus, you have tasted a better drink than the muddy river of this world's pleasure can give. You have had fellowship with Christ, and the joy of seeing Jesus and leaning your head upon His bosom. Do the songs, honors, and merriment of this earth give you satisfaction after that? You have eaten the bread of angels; can you now live on husks? Good Rutherford once said, “I have tasted of Christ's own manna, and it hath put my mouth out of taste for the brown bread of this world's joys.” It should be the same with you. If you are seeking the waters of Egypt, return quickly to the one living fountain. The waters of Sihor may be sweet to the Egyptians, but they will offer only bitterness to you. 다양한 종류의 기적과 긍휼과 구원에 의하여 여호와는 자신이 이스라엘 백성의 신뢰를 받을 만한 분이심을 증거하셨습니다. 그러나 그들은 살아계신 그들의 진짜 하나님을 저버리고 거짓 신들을 따랐습니다. 주님은 끊임없이 그들의 불신에 대하여 그들을 책망하셨습니다. 우리의 본문(렘 2:18)은 이스라엘 백성에게 하나님의 이론(理論)의 한 본 보기(예)를 포함하고 있습니다.
"네가 더러운 강물을 마시기 위하여 애굽길에 있음은 어찜이냐?" - 이것은 이렇게도 번역될 수 있을 것같습니다.
"너는 왜 멀리서 헤매며 레바논에서 흐르는 너 자신의 신선한 강물을 버리느냐? 너는 너무 이상하게도 해악(손해)에 마음을 기울여서 네가 선(善)과 건강에 만족할 수 없고, 그 대신 왜 악한 것과 기만적인 것을 따라가느냐?" 라고.
이것은 그리스도인에게 주는 경계의 말씀이지요?
오, 은혜에 의하여 부름받고 예수님의 보혈로 씻음 받은 진정한 신자여, 그대는 이 세상의 기쁨이라는 더러운 강물보다 더 좋은 물을 맛보았습니다. 그대는 그리스도와 친교를 가졌습니다. 그리고 예수님을 보는 기쁨과(요한처럼) 주님의 가슴에 머리를 기대는 기쁨도 가졌습니다.
그런 다음에(예수님을 알고 난 다음에) 이 세상의 노래들과 명예(영예)들과 환락이 그대에게 만족을 줍니까? 그대는 천사들의 떡을 먹었습니다. 그대는 지금 깍지(껍질)를 먹고 삽니까?
라더 포드(Good Ratherford)는 이전에 "나는 그리스도 자신의 만나를 맛보았습니다 (주1). 그리고 그것은 이 세상의 기쁨이라는 갈색떡에 대한 나의 입맛을 잃게 했습니다." 라고 말했습니다. 이것은 그대에게도 마찬가지여야 합니다. 만일 그대가 애굽의 물을 구한다면 빨리 단 하나뿐인 생명수의 샘(주2)에로 돌아가십시오.
