The prophet Elijah received the answer to his prayer. Fire from heaven consumed the sacrifice in the presence of all the people. He called upon the assembled Israelites to take the priests of Baal, and he sternly cried, “Let not one of them escape.” He took them all down to the brook Kishon and killed them. We must do the same with our sins. They are all doomed; not one must be preserved. Do not spare it though it cries and begs. Strike, though it is something dear to you. Strike, for God struck at sin when it was laid upon His own Son. With stern, unflinching purpose you must condemn to death that sin which was once the idol of your heart. Jesus will be your power. You have strength to win the victory in the crusade against sin because Christ Jesus has promised to be with you to the end. If you want to triumph over darkness, stand in the presence of the Sun of Righteousness. There is no better place for the discovery of sin and recovery from its power and guilt than the immediate presence of God. Job never knew how to get rid of sin as well as he did when his eye of faith rested upon God. Then he repented in dust and ashes. The fine gold of the Christian often grows dim. We need the sacred fire to consume the dross. Let us run to God. He is a consuming fire. He will not consume our spirit, but He will destroy our sins. Let the goodness of God stir in us a sacred jealousy and a holy revenge against iniquities which are hateful in His sight. Go forth to battle in the strength of the Lord and utterly destroy the accursed crew. Let not one of them escape.

○ 제목: 하나도 도망하지 못하게
○ 요절: "엘리야가 저희에게 이르되 바알의 선지자를 잡되 하나도 도망하지 못하게 하라 하매 곧 잡은지라. 엘리야가 저희를 기손 시내로 내려다가 거기서 죽이니라." (왕상 18:40)
선지자 엘리야는 그의 기도의 응답을 받았습니다.
하늘로부터 내려온 불이 모든 백성의 면전에서 제물을 태웠습니다. 엘리야는 모인 이스라엘 사람들에게 바알의 제사장들을 잡으라고 요구했습니다.
그리고 그는 "하나도 도망하지 못하게 하라."고 엄하게 외쳤습니다. 엘리야는 그들 모두를 기손 시내로 내려다가 거기서 죽였습니다. 우리는 우리의 죄들에게 이와 똑같은 것을 행해야 합니다(즉, 우리도 우리의 죄들을 모조리 죽여야 합니다).
그들은 모두 정죄(사형선고) 되었습니다. 하나도 보존되어서는 안됩니다. 비록 그것이 울부짖고, 애원할지라도 그것을 용서하지 마십시오. 비록 그것이 그대에게 소중한 것일지라도 쳐버리십시오. 치십시오, 왜냐하면 하나님은 그것(죄)이 그 자신의 아들 위에 놓여졌을 때도 죄를 치셨기 때문입니다. 엄하고 단호한 의지를 갖고 이전에 그대의 마음의 우상이었던 그 죄에게 그대는 반드시 사형선고(판결)를 내려야 합니다(쳐죽여야 합니다).
예수님은 그대의 능력이 될 것입니다. 그리스도 예수께서 세상 끝까지 그대와 함께 하시겠다고 약속하셨기 때문에(주1), 그대는 죄와 싸우는 십자군으로서 승리를 얻을 힘을 갖고 있습니다. 만일 그대가 어두움의 권세를 이기기를 원한다면 의(義)의 태양의 임재안에 서십시오. 죄의 발견과 죄의 능력과 범죄에서 벗어날 수 있는 곳은 하나님의 직접적인 임재보다 더 나은 장소는 없습니다. 욥은 그의 믿음의 눈이 하나님께 머물렀을 때 죄를 없애는 방법을 가장 잘 알았습니다.
그래서 그는 티끌과 재속에서 참회했습니다. 그리스도인의 순금도 종종 흐려집니다. 우리는 찌꺼기를 태우기 위하여 거룩한 불이 필요합니다. 하나님께로 달려갑시다. 하나님은 태우시는 불입니다. 하나님은 우리의 영혼을 태우시지 않을 것입니다. 그러나 우리의 죄들은 태우실 것입니다.
하나님의 선(善)이 우리 안에서 거룩한 질투와 하나님 보시기에 가증한 불법들에 대한 거룩한 복수를 일으키게 합시다.
주님의 힘으로 싸우러 나가십시오. 그리고 저주받은 패거리들(죄들)을 철저히 파괴하십시오. 그들이 하나도 도망치지 못하게 하십시오.
