Evening
“Tell ye you, children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation”(Joel 1:3).
In this simple way, by God's grace, a living testimony for truth is always to be kept alive in the land. The people of the Lord are to hand down their witness for the gospel to their heirs. These, in turn, share the truth with their next descendants. This is our first duty. He is a bad preacher who does not begin his ministry at home. The heathen are to be witnessed to by all means. But home has a prior claim, and woe to those who reverse the order of the Lord's arrangements. To teach our children is a personal duty. We cannot delegate it to Sunday school teachers or pastors. These can assist us, but they cannot deliver us from the sacred obligation. Mothers and fathers must, like Abraham, instruct their households in the fear of God and talk with their offspring concerning the wondrous works of the Most High. Parental teaching is a natural duty. Who is more qualified to look to the child's spiritual well-being as those who are the authors of his physical being? To neglect the instruction of our offspring is worse than cruel. Family prayer and Bible study are necessary for the nation, for the family, and for the Church. The kingdom of Satan is constantly trying to advance in our land. One of the most effectual means for resisting its inroads is left almost neglected - the instruction of children in the faith. Parents must realize the importance of this matter. It is a pleasant duty to talk of Jesus to our sons and daughters, and it has often proved to be an accepted work. God has saved the children through the parents' prayers and admonitions.

○ 요절: "너희는 이 일을 너희 자녀에게 고하고 너희 자녀는 자기 자녀에게 고하고, 그 자녀는 후시대에 고할 것이니라."(욜1:3)
하나님의 은혜로 이런 간단한 방법(욜1:3)으로 진리에 대한 산 증거가 온 나라(땅)에 항상 살아 있게 되는 것입니다.
주님의 백성은 그들의 복음의 증거를 그들의 후손들에게 전해야 할 것입니다. 이들은 차례로 그들의 다음 자손들과 함께 공유하게 됩니다. 이것이 우리의 첫 번째 의무입니다.
그의 복음의 사역(전도)을 자기 가정에서 시작하지 않는 사람은 불완전한 설교자입니다. 이방인들은 반드시 증거(전도)를 받아야 합니다.
그러나 가정은 우선적으로 전도(증거)를 받을 자격(요구)을 갖고 있습니다. 주님이 정하신 배열의 질서에 반대하는 사람들에게는 화가 있습니다. 우리들의 자녀들을 가르치는 일은 개인적인 의무입니다.
우리는 그 일을 주일학교 선생님들이나 목사님들에게만 맡길 수 없습니다. 이분들은 도울 수는 있습니다. 그러나 그들은 우리의 그 신성한 책임에서 우리를 해방시킬 수 없습니다(즉, 자녀의 신앙교육은 교회에만 떠맡길 수 없는 부모의 당연한 책임입니다).
어머니들과 아버지들은 아브라함과 같이 하나님을 경외하는 가운데서 그들의 가족들을 가르쳐야 합니다. 그리고 지존 자(하나님)의 놀라운 역사(役事)들에 관하여, 그들의 자손에게 말해야 합니다.
부모의 가르침은 당연한 의무입니다. 그 아이의 영적 행복을 보살피는 일에, 그의 육신(육체적 존재)을 낳아 준 부모보다 누가 더 적임자(자격 자)이겠습니까?
우리들의 자손을 교육하는 일을 게을리 하는 것은 잔인보다 더 나쁩니다.
가정기도와 성경공부는 국가를 위하여, 가정을 위하여, 교회를 위하여 반드시 필요합니다.
사탄의 왕국은 우리의 땅(나라)에 대하여 계속적인 침략을 꾀하고 있습니다. 그 왕국의 침략에 대항하는 가정 효과적인 수단의 하나는 거의 무시된 채로 방치되고 있습니다. - 바로 자녀들의 신앙교육입니다. 부모들은 이 일(신앙교육)의 중요성을 실감해야 합니다. 우리의 아들들과 딸들에게 예수님을 이야기하는 것은 즐거운 의무입니다(기뻐해야 할 책무입니다). 그리고 그 의무는 종종 용납(인정)되는 일로 입증되었습니다. 하나님은 부모의 기도와 훈계를 통하여 그 자녀들을 구원하셨습니다.
