Evening
“I know their sorrows”(Exodus 3:7).
The child is cheered as he sings, “This my father knows.” We will be comforted when we realize that our dear Friend and tender Husband of our soul knows all about us. He is the Physician. If He know. Hush, fluttering heart, which is always prying, peeping, and suspecting! The things that you do not know now, you will understand hereafter. Jesus, the beloved Physician, knows your soul in adversities. Why should the patient analyze all the medicine or ponder all the symptoms? This is the physician's work, not mine. It is my business to trust, and his to prescribe. If he writes his prescription in characters which I cannot read, I will not be uneasy on that account. Rather, I will rely upon his unfailing skill to make all clear in the result, however mysterious in the working. He is the Master. We are to obey, not to judge. “The servant knoweth not what his lord doeth”(John 15:15). Shall the architect explain his plans to every construction worker on the site? If he knows his own intent, is it not enough? The vessel on the potter's wheel cannot guess to what pattern it shall be conformed. But if the potter understands his art, what does the ignorance of the clay matter? My Lord must not be questioned any longer by one so ignorant as I am. He is the Head. All understanding centers there. What judgment has the arm? What comprehension has the foot? Why should the member have a brain of its own when the head fulfills for it every intellectual duty? Sweet Lord, be the eye, soul, and head for us. Let us be content to know only what You choose to reveal.

○ 요절: "여호와께서 가라사대 내가 애굽에 있는 내 백성의 고통을 정녕히 보고 그들이 그 간역자로 인하여 부르짖음을 듣고 그 우고를 알고."(출 3:7)
아이는 "이것은 나의 아빠가 아신다"라고 노래할 때 신이(기운이)납니다. 우리의 사랑하는 친구이시고, 온유하신 우리 영혼의 남편이신 주님이 우리에 관해 모든 것을 아신다는 것을 알 때 우리는 큰 위로를 받을 것입니다.
첫째로, 그분은 의사이십니다.
만일 그분이 모든 것을 알고 계신다면, 환자가 알아야 할 필요가 없습니다. 항상 꼬치꼬치 캐고, 엿보며, 의심하면서 안절부절 못하는 심령이여, 침착하십시오!
그대가 지금 모르는 것들을 그대는 장차 알게 될 것입니다. 가장 사랑하는 의사이신 예수님은 역경속에 있는 그대의 영혼을 아십니다. 왜 환자가 모든 약을 분석하거나 또는 모든 병의 증상을 숙고해야 합니까? 이것은 의사의 일이지 내가 할 일은 아닙니다. 내가 할 일은 신뢰하는 것(믿고 맡기는 것)이고, 처방하는 것은 주님의 일입니다.
만일 그분이 그의 약방문(처방전)을 내가 읽을 수 없는 글자로 쓸지라도 나는 그 이유 때문에 불안하지 않을 것입니다. 오히려 나는 주님의 작업이 아무리 신비로울지라도 결국에는 모든 문제들을 온전하게 하시는 그의 확실한 기술(솜씨)을 의지할 것입니다.
둘째로, 그분은 주인이십니다.
우리는 판단하지 말아야 하고 순종해야 합니다. "종은 주인의 하는 것을 알지 못함이라(요 15:15)." 건축가가 그의 설계 내용을 현장에서 일하는 모든 건설 노동자들에게 일일이 설명하겠습니까?
토기장이의 녹로 위의 그릇은 그것이 어떤 본(pattern)에 맞게 만들어질지를 짐작할 수 없습니다. 그러나 만일 토기장이가 자기의 기술을 안다면 흙의 무지가 무슨 상관이 있겠습니까? 나의 주님은 나같이 무지한 사람에 의하여 더 이상 힐문(詰問)되어서는 안됩니다.
셋째로, 그분은 머리이십니다.
모든 이해(지식)는 머리에 집중되어 있습니다. 팔이 어떤 판단을 갖고 있습니까? 발이 무슨 이해력을 갖고 있습니까? 머리가 지체를 위하여 모든 지적 기능을 다한다면 왜 각 지체가 각각 자체의 두뇌를 가져야 합니까?
사랑하는 주님, 우리를 위하여 눈이 되시고, 영혼이 되시고, 머리가 되소서. 주님께서 계시하시기로 택정(擇定)하신 것만을 알고 만족하게 하소서.
