Evening
“Thou crownest the year with thy goodness”(Psalm 65:11).
God blesses us richly every hour of every day. When we sleep and when we wake, His mercy waits upon us. The sun may leave us a legacy of darkness, but God never ceases to shine upon His children with beams of love. Like a river, His lovingkindness always flows with a fullness that is as inexhaustible as His own nature. Like the atmosphere which surrounds the earth and supports the life of man, the benevolence of God surrounds all His creatures. Rivers are swollen at certain seasons by the rain, and the atmosphere itself is sometimes filled with more fresh, more bracing, or more balmy influences than usual. It is the same with the mercy of God. It has its golden hours and its days of overflowing joy, when the Lord magnifies His grace before the sons of men. The joyous days of harvest are a special season of favor. The glory of autumn is in the ripe gifts of providence that are abundantly bestowed. It is the mellow season of realization where all before was mere hope and expectation. Great is the joy of harvest. Happy are the reapers who fill their arms with the liberality of heaven. The psalmist tells us that the harvest is the crowning of the year. Surely these crowning mercies call for crowning thanksgiving! Let us offer thanks by the inward emotions of gratitude. Let our hearts be warmed, and let our spirits remember and meditate upon the goodness of the Lord. Then, let us praise Him with our lips and magnify His name, from whose bounty all this goodness flows. Let us glorify God by yielding our gifts to Him.

○ 요절: "주의 은택으로 년사에 관 씌우시니 주의 길에는 기름이 떨어지며 들의 초장에도 떨어지니 작은 산들이 기쁨으로 띠를 띠었나이다."(시 65:11)
하나님은 매일의 매시간(종일 내내) 우리를 풍성하게 축복하십니다. 우리가 잘 때에나 우리가 깨어 있을 때나 그분의 은혜가 우리를 시중들고 있습니다. 태양은 어둠의 유산을 남겨 놓고 지지만 하나님은 그의 자녀들에게 사랑의 햇살을 비추시는 것을 결코 멈추지 아니하십니다. 주님의 인자하심은 그 자신의 본성과 같이 무진장한 충만으로 강물처럼 항상 흘러내립니다. 지구를 둘러싸고 사람의 생명을 유지시키는 공기같이 하나님의 자비심(사랑)은 그의 모든 피조물을 감싸주고 있습니다.
강들은 어떤 계절에는 비로 넘칩니다. 그리고 때때로 공기 자체도 보통 때보다 더 신선하고, 더 상쾌하고, 더 향기로운 분위기로 충만합니다. 하나님의 은혜도 그와 같습니다. 하나님의 은혜도 주님이 그의 은혜를 사람들 앞에 크게 베푸시는 황금 시기와 그 은혜의 기쁨이 넘치는 날들을 갖습니다.
즐거운 추수의 날들은 특별한 은혜의 계절입니다. 풍성하게 주시는 하나님의 무르익은 선물들 속에는 하나님의 영광이 있습니다. 전에는 단지 소망과 기대만이 있었던 곳에 달콤한 (기름진) 결실(소망의 실현)의 계절이 왔습니다.
추수의 기쁨은 참으로 큽니다. 그들의 두 팔에 천국의 풍성한 선물을 가득 채우는 추수꾼들은 참으로 행복합니다. 시편 기자는 우리에게 추수기가 그해의 대관식 시기(그해를 왕관 씌우는 때)라고 말하고 있습니다(즉, 추수기가 일년 중 최고로 영광스러운 때임을 강조합니다).
확실히 이 왕관을 씌워주시는 은혜들은 감사의 왕관을 요청합니다(즉, 하나님의 이 최고의 은혜들은 최고의 감사를 확실하게 요구합니다).
우리는 내면적 감사의 감정(정서)을 갖고 감사를 드립시다. 우리의 마음들을 따뜻하게 합시다. 그리고 우리의 영혼들은 주의 은택을 기억하고 묵상합시다. 그 다음에 이 모든 은택을 후하게 주시는 주님을 입술로 찬양하고 그의 이름을 높입시다.
우리는 우리가 받은 은사들(은혜의 선물들)을 주님께 돌려 드림으로써 하나님을 영화롭게 합시다.
