Evening
"He himself hath suffered being tempted"(Hebrews 2:18).
This simple thought is so encouraging that it tastes like honey to the weary heart: Jesus was tempted. You have heard that truth many times - have you grasped if? You may be going through a dark valley, but Jesus went through it before. It is a difficult battle which you are waging, but Jesus stood against the same enemy. Let us be of good cheer. Christ has borne the load before us. Jesus was tempted, but He never sinned. Then, it is not necessary for me to sin. Jesus was a man, and He endured temptation and did not sin. Then in His power, His members may also cease from sin. Some beginners in Christian life think that they cannot be tempted without sinning, but they are mistaken. There is no sin in being tempted, but there is sin in yielding to temptation. Here is comfort for the tempted ones. The Lord Jesus, though tempted, gloriously triumphed. As He overcame, so surely shall His followers, for Jesus is the representative of His people. The Head has triumphed, and the members share in the victory. Fears are needless, for Christ is with us, armed for our defense. Our place of safety is the bosom of the Savior. Perhaps our temptations will drive us nearer to Him. Blessed be any wind that blows us into the port of our Savior's love! Happy are the wounds which make us seek the beloved physician. You who are tempted, come to your tempted Savior. He can be touched with a feeling of your infirmities and will comfort every tried and tempted one.

○ 요절: "자기가 시험을 받아 고난을 당하셨은즉, 시험받은 자들을 능히 도우시느니라."(히 2:18)
이 간단한 생각(히 2:18)은 매우 신나게 해서(기운나게 해서) 지친 심령에게 꿀같은 단맛을 줍니다.
예수님께서도 시험을 받으셨습니다. 그대는 그 진리를 여러번 들었습니다. - 그대는 그것을 이해했습니까? 그대는 어두운 골짜기를 지나고 있을지도 모릅니다. 그러나 예수님은 먼저 그곳을 통과하셨습니다. 그대가 지금 싸우고 있는 싸움은 힘든 싸움입니다. 그러나 예수님은 똑같은 그 원수와 대적하셨습니다. 담대합시다. 그리스도는 우리보다 앞서(먼저) 그 짐을 지셨습니다.
예수님은 시험을 받으셨습니다. 그러나 그분은 결코 죄를 짓지 않으셨습니다. 그러므로 내가 죄를 지을 필요가 없습니다(즉, 나도 죄를 짓지 말아야 합니다). 예수님은 사람이셨습니다. 그러나 그분은 시험을 견디었고 죄를 짓지 않았습니다. 그렇다면 그분의 능력안에서 그의 지체(그리스도인)들도 죄를 그만두기를 바랍니다.
그리스도인의 삶에 있어서 어떤 초신자들은 시험을 받으면 반드시 죄를 짓게 된다고 생각합니다. 그러나 그들은 오해하고 있습니다.
시험받는 것은 죄가 아닙니다. 그러나 시험에 굴복하는 것은 죄입니다.
여기에 시험받는 자들을 위한 위로가 있습니다. 주 예수님은 시험을 받으셨지만, 영광스럽게 승리하셨습니다. 그분이 승리하셨던 것처럼 그를 따르는 사람들도 확실히 승리할 것입니다. 왜냐하면 예수님은 그의 백성들의 대표자이시기 때문입니다. 머리가 승리하셨습니다. 그래서 그 지체들은 그 승리에 동참합니다.
공포(두려움)는 있을 필요가 없습니다. 왜냐하면 그리스도는 우리의 방어를 위하여 무장하시고 우리와 함께 계시기 때문입니다. 우리의 안전의 장소는 구주의 품(가슴)입니다. 아마 우리의 시험들은 우리를 주님께로 더 가까이 가도록 떠밀어 줄 것입니다. 우리 구주의 사랑의 항구에로 불어주는 어떤 바람(시험)도 복이 있도다!
우리로 하여금 의사(구주)를 찾게 하는 상처들은 행복입니다. 시험받는 그대여, 시험받으신 그대의 구주께 나아오십시오. 그대의 연약한 심정으로 주님을 만질 수 있습니다(주1). 그리고 시련받고 시험받는 모든 사람을 위로하실 것입니다.
