Evening
"Go again seven times"(1 Kings 15:43).
Success is certain when the Lord has promised it. Although you may have pleaded month after month without evidence of an answer, the Lord always hears when His people are serious about a matter which concerns His glory. The prophet on the top of Mount Carmel continued to wrestle with God and never for a moment gave way to a fear that he did not belong in Jehovah's courts. Six times the servant returned, but on each occasion the prophet only said, "Go again." Faith sends expectant Hope to look from Carmel's brow, and if nothing is beheld, she sends again and again. Rather than being crushed by repeated disappointment, Faith is determined to plead more fervently with God. She is humbled, but not ashamed. Her groans are deeper, and her sighings become more vehement, but she never relaxes her hold. A speedy answer would be more agreeable to the flesh, but believing souls have learned to be submissive. They find it good to wait for as well as upon the Lord. Delayed answers often set the heart searching itself and so lead to repentance and spiritual reformation. Thus, deadly blows are struck at our corruption, and the inner chambers of our hearts are cleansed. The great danger is that men may give up and miss the blessing. Do not fall into that sin, but continue in watchful prayer. When the little cloud was seen, it was the sure forerunner of torrents of rain. It will be the same with you. The token for good will surely be given, and you will rise as a prevailing prince to enjoy the answer you have sought. Elijah was a man like us. His power with God did not lie in his own merits If his believing prayer accomplished so much, why not yours? Plead with unwavering faith, and it will be given to you according to your desire.

주님이 약속하신 성공은 확실합니다. 비록 그대의 여러달 동안의 간구에도 아무 응답의 증거가 없을지라도, 주님은 그의 백성이 주님의 영광에 관계된 일에 관하여 열심일 때(진지할 때)는 항상 듣고 계십니다.
갈멜산상의 선지자(엘리야)는 하나님과 씨름(기도)을 계속 했습니다. 그리고 그가 한 순간도 여호와의 궁정에 속하지 않았다는 두려움에 빠지지 않았습니다. 여섯 번이나 사환이 돌아왔습니다. 그러나 그럴 때마다 그 선지자는 "다시 가라" 라는 말만 했을 뿐입니다. 믿음은 기대하는 소망이 갈멜산 언덕에서 보도록 자꾸 자꾸 보냅니다. 그래서 아무것도 보이지 않는다 하더라도 믿음(she)은 몇 번이고 계속 보냅니다.
거듭된 실망으로 좌절되기는 커녕 오히려 믿음은 더욱 열렬히 하나님께 간구할 것을 결심했습니다. 믿음은 겸손해 집니다. 그러나 부끄러워하지는 않습니다. 믿음의 신음소리는 점점 깊어지고 믿음의 한숨들은 더 격렬해집니다. 그러나 믿음은 믿음의 버팀(hold)을 결코 늦추지 않습니다. 육신에게는 빠른 응답이 더 즐거울 것입니다.
그러나 믿는 영혼들은 순종하는 것을 배웠습니다. 그들은 섬기며(wait upon), 기다리는 것(wait for)이 유익하다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 지체되는 응답들은 종종 그 마음이 그 자신을 살피게 해서(주 1) 회개와 영적 개혁으로 인도합니다. 이렇게 해서 우리의 타락(부패)은 강풍의 치명적인 타격을 받습니다. 그리고 우리의 마음의 내실(안방)들은 깨끗이 청소됩니다. 큰 위험은 사람들이 기도를 포기하고 축복을 잃는 것입니다(즉, 우리의 큰 위험은 계속적인 기도를 포기함으로써 받을 축복을 잃어버리는 것입니다).
기도를 중지하는 죄에 빠지지 말고 계속 깨어 기도하십시오.
작은 구름이 보일 때, 그것은 억수같은 비가 쏟아질 확실한 전조(前兆)였습니다. 그것은 그대에게도 똑같습니다. 길조(吉兆)의 표시는 확실히 주어질 것입니다. 그리고 그대는 세력있는 왕자가 되어 그대가 구했던 응답을 즐길 것입니다. 엘리야는 우리와 같은 성정(性情)을 가진 사람이었습니다(주 2). 하나님으로부터 받은 능력은 그 자신의 공로에 있지 않습니다. 만일 엘리야의 믿음의 기도가 그토록 큰 응답을 성취했다면, 왜 그대의 기도가 성취되지 않겠습니까? 흔들리지 않는(확고한) 믿음으로 간구하십시오. 그러면 그것은 그대의 소원대로 그대에게 응답될 것입니다.
