Evening
“The people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him”(Mark 9:15).
How great is the difference between Moses and Jesus! When the prophet of Horeb had been on the mountain for froty days, he underwent a kind of transfiguration that made his countenance shine with great brightness. He put a veil over his face, for the people could not look upon his glory (See Exodus 34:29-33). Our Savior had been transfigured with a greater glory than that of Moses. Yet, it is not written that the people were blinded by the blaze of His countenance. Rather, they were amazed, ran to Him, and saluted Him. The glory of the law repels, but the greater glory of Jesus attracts. Jesus is holy and just yet blended with His purity there is so much truth and grace that sinners run to Him, amazed at His goodness and fascinated by His love. They salute Him, become His disciples, and take Him to be their Lord and Master. It may be that you feel blinded by the dazzling brightness of the law of God. You sense its claims in your conscience, but you cannot keep it in your life. Not that you find fault with the law; on the contrary, it commands your highest esteem. Still, it does not draw you to God. Instead, you are hardened in heart and are verging toward desperation. Turn your eye from Moses and look to Jesus. He is the Son of God, and He is greater than Moses. But He is the Lord of love and, therefore, more tender than the lawgiver. He bore the wrath of God and in His death revealed more of God's justice than Sinai on a blaze. But justice is now satisfied, and it is now the guardian of believers in Jesus. Look, sinner, to the bleeding Savior. As you feel drawn by His love, run to His arms, and you will be saved.

모세와 예수님 사이에는 얼마나 큰 차이가 있습니까?
호렙산의 선지자(모세)는 40일 동안 산 위에 있었을 때 그의 얼굴이 큰 광채로 빛나는 일종의 변형(變形)을 겪었습니다. 그때 모세는 그의 얼굴을 수건으로 가리웠습니다. 왜냐하면 백성들이 그의 영광을 쳐다볼 수 없었기 때문이었습니다.

우리의 구주(예수그리스도)는 모세의 영광보다 더 큰 영광을 받은 모습으로 변형되었습니다. 그러나 사람들이 주님의 얼굴의 광채에 의하여 눈이 멀었다는 기록은 없습니다. 오히려 그들은 심히 놀라며 주님께 달려와 문안(인사)을 드렸습니다.
율법의 영광은 사람들을 물리치지만(쫓아내지만) 더 크신 예수님의 영광은 사람들을 끌어당깁니다. 예수님은 거룩하시고 의롭습니다. 또한 그의 순결성은 매우 많은 진리와 은혜로 조화되어서 죄인들은 그 선하심에 놀라고 그의 사랑에 매료되어서 주님께 달려갑니다.
그들은 예수님께 문안 드리고, 그의 제자가 되고 그분을 그들의 주님과 주인으로 삼습니다. 아마 그대는 하나님의 율법의 눈부신 광채 때문에 현기증을 느낄지도 모릅니다. 그대는 그대의 양심에게 요구하는 율법의 주장을 느낍니다. 그러나 그대의 삶속에서 그 율법을 지킬 수 없습니다.
그것은 그대가 율법에서 흠을 발견하기 때문이 아닙니다. 그 반대로 율법은 그대의 최고의 존중심을 불러일으킵니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 율법은 그대를 하나님께 이끌지 못합니다. 그 대신 그대는 마음이 강퍅해지고 절망으로 다가갑니다. 그대의 눈을 모세부터 돌려서 예수님을 바라보십시오. 그분은 하나님의 아들이십니다. 그리고 모세보다 더 위대하신 분입니다.
그러나 그분은 사랑의 주님이십니다. 그러므로 율법을 준자(모세)보다 더 인자하십니다. 그분은 하나님의 진노를 담당하셨고, 그의 죽음으로써 불타는 시내산보다 하나님의 공의를 더 많이 나타내셨습니다. 그러나 이제 공의는 만족되었습니다. 그리고 공의는 지금 예수안에 있는 신자들의 수호자(지켜주는 분)입니다. 죄인이여, 피 흘리시는 구주를 바라보십시오. 그대가 그분의 사랑에 이끌림을 느낄 때 그분의 품으로 달려가십시오. 그러면 그대는 구원을 받을 것입니다.
