Evening
"In thy light shall we see light"(Psalm 36:9).
No words can explain the love of Christ to the heart until Jesus Himself speaks within. Descriptions all fall flat and lifeless unless the Holy Spirit fills them with His power. Until our Emmanuel reveals Himself, the soul does not see Him. If you want to see the sun, would you take out a candle and search for it? No, the wise man knows that the sun must reveal itself, and only by its own blaze can that mighty lamp be seen. The same is true with Christ. "Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona,"said He to Peter, "for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee"(Matthew 16:17). Purify flesh and blood by any educational process you choose, elevate mental faculties to the highest degree of intellectual power, yet none of these can reveal Christ. The Spirit of God must come with power and overshadow the man with His wings. Then the Lord Jesus will reveal Himself to the sanctified eye. The great mass of this blearyeyed world can see nothing of the magnificent glories of Emmanuel. He stands before them without form or beauty, a root out of a dry ground, rejected by the vain and despise by the proud. Only where the Spirit has touched the eye with eyesalve, filled the heart with divine life, and educated the soul to a heavenly taste, only there is He understood. "Unto you therefore which believe he is precious"(1 Peter 23:7). To you He is the chief cornerstone, the Rock of your salvation, your all in all; but to others He is "a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence"(1 Peter 2:8). O Jesus, our Lord, our heart is open. Come in, and never leave us.

예수님께서 친히 우리 안에서 말씀해 주시기까지 인간의 어떤 말로도 인간의 마음에 그리스도의 사랑을 설명할 수 없습니다.
성령께서 그의 능력으로 그들을 채우지 않는 한 어떤 묘사들도 모두 다 실패로 돌아가고 생명이 없습니다. 우리의 임마누엘(Emmanuel) 하나님께서 그 자신을 계시하시지 않는 한, 인간의 영혼은 그분을 보지 못합니다. 그대가 태양을 보기를 원한다면 그대가 촛불을 끄집어내어서 태양을 찾겠습니까? 아닙니다. 지혜로운 사람은 태양이 반드시 그 자체를 들어내야 하고, 그 태양 자체의 빛(불꽃)을 통하여만 그 막강한 등불(태양)을 볼 수 있다는 것을 압니다. 이것은 그리스도에게도 똑같이 해당되는 진리입니다.
주님은 베드로에게 "바요나 시몬아 네가 복이 있도다. 이를 네게 알게 한 이는 혈육이 아니요 하늘에 계신 내 아버지시니라." 라고 말씀하셨습니다(마 16:17).
그대가 선택하는 어떤 교육과정에 의해서 혈육을 정결케 해 보십시오. 또 정신능력을 계발하여 최고의 지적 능력의 수준으로 올려 보십시오. 그러나 이들의 어떤 것도 그리스도를 계시할 수 없습니다. 하나님의 성령은 능력과 함께 오십니다. 그리고 그의 날개로 반드시 그 사람을 덮으실 것입니다. 그 다음에 예수님은 거룩하게 된 자의 눈에 그 자신을 계시하실 것입니다. 이 눈 먼 세상의 대중들은 임마누엘(Emmanuel)의 장엄한 영광을 전혀 볼 수 없습니다.
그들 앞에서는 주님은 마른땅에서 나온 줄기 같아서 고운 모양(beauty), 풍채(form)도 없어서, 허영에 찬 사람들에게 싫어 버린바 되고, 교만한 사람에게 멸시를 당하였습니다(주1).
오직 성령께서 그 눈에 안약을 발라 주고, 그 마음에 하늘의 생명으로 채우고, 그 영혼이 하늘의 성품(취향)에 맞도록 교육받은 곳에서만 그분은 이해될 뿐입니다.
"그러므로 믿는 그대에게 그 분은 보배이십니다."(벧전 2:7)
그대에게 그는 가장 중요한 머릿돌이고, 그대의 구원의 반석이시고, 그대의 모든 것인 분(가장 소중하신 분)입니다. 그러나 다른 사람들에게 그분은 "부딪히는 돌과 거치는 반석" 입니다.(벧전 2:8)
우리의 주, 오 예수님, 우리의 마음이 열려 있습니다. 들어오십시오. 그리고 결코 우리를 떠나지 마소서.
