Evening
"Even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body"(Romans 8:23).
This groaning is universal among the saints. It is the sound of desire rather than of distress. We wait for the day when our entire manhood, in its trinity of spirit. soul, and body, will be set free from the last vestige of sin. We long to put off corruption, weakness, and dishonor and to wrap ourselves in incorruption, immortality, and glory which the Lord Jesus will give His people. We long for the manifestation of our adoption as the children of God. We groan, but it is within ourselves. It is not the hypocrite's groan, to make others believe we are saints because we are suffering. We keep our longings to our Lord alone. We are not to grumble like Jonah or Elijah when they said, "Let me die."We are not to whimper and sigh for the end of life because we are tired of work or because we wish to escape from our present sufferings. We are to groan for glorification, but we must wait patiently for it, knowing that the Lord's timing is best. Waiting implies being ready, We are to stand at the door expecting the Beloved to open it and take us away to Himself. This groaning is a test. You may judge a man by what he groans after. Some men groan after wealth. Some groan continually under the troubles of life. But the man who sighs after God and is uneasy until he is made like Christ is the blessed man. May God help us groan for the coming of the Lord and the resurrection which He will bring to us.

○ 요절: "이뿐 아니라 또한 우리 곧 성령의 처음 익은 열매를 받은 우리까지도 속으로 탄식하여 양자될 것 곧 우리 몸의 구속을 기다리느니라."(롬 8:23)
이 탄식은 성도들에게는 일반적입니다. 그 신음은 고통의 소리라기보다는 오히려 소원의 소리입니다. 우리는 우리의 전 인간성(인격), 즉 영과 혼과 몸의 세부분이 죄의 마지막 흔적에서 벗어나게 될 날을 기다립니다(주1).
우리는 부패, 연약함, 그리고 치욕(불명예)을 벗어버리기를 열망합니다. 그리고 우리 자신을 청결, 불멸, 그리고 주 예수께서 그의 백성들에게 주실 영광으로 우리 자신들을 감싸주시기를 갈망합니다.
우리는 하나님의 자녀로서 우리의 양자됨이 증명되기를 간절히 바랍니다. 우리는 탄식합니다. 그러나 그것은 우리들 안에서 탄식하는 내면의 탄식입니다.
우리가 성도들인 것은 우리가 고통받기 때문이라고 다른 사람들로 하여금 믿게 하기 위한 위선자의 탄식(신음)이 아닙니다. 우리는 오직 우리의 주님만을 계속 갈망합니다. 우리는 요나와 엘리야가 "죽기를 원하나이다"라고 말했을 때처럼 불평하지 말아야 합니다. 우리는 일로 지치거나 우리의 현재의 고통에서 도피하기를 원해서 생명이 끝나기를 바라며 목메어 울거나 한숨짓지 말아야 합니다.
우리는 하나님의 영광을 위하여 탄식해야 합니다. 그러나 우리는 주님의 때(the Lord's timing)가 최선임을 알면서 그것을 참을성 있게 기다려야 합니다. 기다린다는 것은 준비하고 있다는 것을 의미합니다. 우리는 사랑하시는 분(주님)이 문을 열어 주시고 우리를 그분에게로 데려가시기를 기대하면서 그 문앞에 서 있어야 합니다.
이 탄식은 하나의 테스트(test, 검증)입니다. 그대는 어떤 사람을, 그 사람이 추구하면서 탄식하는 것에 의하여 판단할 수 있습니다. [즉 어떤 사람이 무엇을 얻기를 갈망하는 마음에서 탄식하는가에 의하여 그의 인품(인격)을 판단할 수 있습니다]
어떤 사람들은 부(富)를 위해 탄식합니다. 어떤 사람들은 인생의 고난(환난) 때문에 계속 탄식합니다. 그러나 하나님을 구하기 위하여(따르기 위하여) 탄식하는 사람과 그리스도를 닮게 되기까지 안심하지 않는 사람(편안치 못한 사람)은 복 있는 사람입니다. 하나님께서 주님의 오심과 주님이 우리에게 가져오실 부활을 위해 우리로 하여금 탄식하도록 도우소서.
