Evening
“Unto thee will I cry, O Lord my rock; be not silent to me:
lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them go down
into the pit”(Psalm 28:1).
A cry is the natural expression of sorrow and a suitable utterance when all other expressions fail us. But the cry must be directed to the Lord, for to cry to man is a waste of time. When we consider the readiness of the Lord to hear and His ability to aid, we see the reason for directing all our appeals at once to the God of our salvation. It will be useless to call the rocks in the day of judgment, but our Rock hears our cries. “Be not silent to me.” Those who merely go through the motions of prayer may be content without answers to their prayers, but genuine suppliants cannot. They must obtain actual replies from heaven, or they cannot rest. They long to receive their reply at once and dread even a little of God's silence. God's voice is often so terrible that it shakes the wilderness, but His silence is equally awe-inspiring. When God seems to close His ear, we must cry with more earnestness. When our voice grows shrill with eagerness and grief, He will not deny us a hearing for long. What a dreadful position we would be in if the Lord became forever silent to our prayers! “Lest if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.” If deprived of the God who answers prayer, we would be in a worse plight than the dead in the grave. We would soon sink to the same level as the lost in hell. We must have answers to prayer because ours is an urgent case of dire necessity. Surely the Lord will speak peace to our agitated minds, for He will never permit His beloved children to perish.

요절: "여호와여 내가 주께 부르짖으오니 나의 반석이여 내게 귀를 막지 마소서. 주께서 내게 잠잠하시면 내가 무덤에 내려가는 자와 같을까 하나이다."(시 28:1)
모든 부르짖음은 슬픔의 자연적인 표현입니다. 그리고 그것은 다른 모든 표현이 모자랄 때 나오는 적절한 발성(발언)입니다.
그러나 부르짖음은 주님께 향하여야 합니다. 왜냐하면 사람에게 부르짖는 것은 시간 낭비이기 때문입니다.
우리가 주님의 들으실 준비와 그분의 도울 능력을 생각할 때 우리는 우리의 모든 애원(간청)을 곧 우리의 구원의 하나님께로 향하게 할 이유를 봅니다. 심판의 날에 바위들에게 호소하는 것은 소용이 없습니다. 그러나 우리들의 반석(the Rock)은 우리의 부르짖음을 듣고 계십니다.
"내게 귀를 막지 마소서."
단지, 겉치레로 기도하는 사람들은 그들의 기도에 응답이 없어도 만족할지 모릅니다. 그러나 진짜의 간구 자(탄원 자)들은 만족할 수 없습니다. 그들은 하늘로부터 실제적인 응답을 얻어야 합니다. 그렇지 않으면 그들은 쉴 수 없습니다. 그들은 당장 그들의 응답을 받기를 갈망합니다.
하나님의 잠시의 침묵조차 두려워 합니다. 하나님의 음성은 종종 너무 두려워서 그 음성은 광야를 흔듭니다. 그러나 그의 침묵도 마찬가지로 경외 심(두려운 마음)을 일으킵니다. 하나님께서 그의 귀를 가까이 하신 것을 느낄 때 우리는 더욱 부르짖어야 합니다. 우리의 목소리가 열심과 비통으로 날카로워져 갈 때 주님은 오랫동안 우리의 간구(hearing)를 거절하시지 않을 것입니다.(즉, 우리의 기도를 곧 들어주실 것입니다)
주께서 우리의 기도에 영원히 잠잠하시면 우리는 얼마나 두려운 자리에 있겠습니까?
"주께서 내게 잠잠하시면 내가 무덤에 내려가는 자와 같을까 하나이다."
기도를 응답하시는 하나님을 빼앗긴다면, 우리는 무덤 속에 있는 죽은 자보다 더 나쁜 곤경에 있을 것입니다. 우리도 곧 지옥에 있는 불신자(잃어 버린 자)와 같은 상태에 빠질 것입니다.
우리는 긴급하고 무서운 필요(궁핍) 상태에 있기 때문에 반드시 기도의 응답을 받아야 합니다.
주님은 확실히 우리의 흔들리는 심령들에게 평안을 말씀하실 것입니다. 왜냐하면 주님은 그의 사랑하시는 자녀들을 결코 멸망하도록 허락하시지 않을 것이기 때문입니다.
