Evening
“Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called”(1 Corinthians 7:20).
Some persons have the foolish notion that the only way they can live for God is by becoming ministers of missionaries. many would be shut out from any opportunity of magnifying the Most High if this was true! Beloved, it is not the work, it is the earnestness with which it is performed. It is not position, it is the grace which will enable us to glorify God. God is most glorified in that factory where the godly worker, as he operates his machine, sings of the Savior's love. He is glorified far more there than in many pulpits where official religiousness performs its scanty duties. The name of Jesus is glorified by the clerk at the drugstore who praises God or speaks to her co-workers about Jesus as much as by the popular preacher who is thundering the gospel throughout the country. God is glorified by our serving Him in our proper vocations. Do not forsake the path of duty by leaving your occupation, and take care you do not dishonor your profession while in it. Do not think too little of your calling. Every lawful trade may be sanctified by the gospel. Turn to the Bible, and you will find the most menial forms of labor connected with daring deeds of faith. Therefore, be not discontented with your calling. Whatever God has made your position, abide in that, unless you are quite sure that He calls you to something else. Let your first concern be to glorify God to the utmost of your power where you are. If He needs you somewhere else, He will show you. This evening, lay aside troublesome ambition, and embrace peaceful content.

어떤 사람들은 그들이 하나님을 위하여 살 수 있는 유일한 길은 목사나 선교사가 되는 것이라는 어리석은 생각을 갖고 있습니다. 이것이 진실이라면 많은 사람이 지존자(하나님)를 높이는 모든 기회로부터 차단될 것입니다.(즉 하나님을 높이는 기회를 갖지 못할 것입니다.)
사랑하는 자여, 우리로 하여금 하나님께 영광을 돌릴 수 있게 할 것은 일이 아니고 그 일을 행하는 열성(열의)입니다.
우리로 하여금 하나님께 영광을 돌릴 수 있게 할 것은 지위가 아니라 은혜입니다.
하나님은 경건한(신앙심이 깊은) 노동자가 그의 기계를 운전하면서 구세주의 사랑을 노래하는 공장에서 가장 영광을 받으십니다. 하나님은 공식적인 종교(교회등)가 부실한 종무(宗務) (예배등)를 이행하는 많은 설교단에서보다 노동자의 공장에서 훨씬 더 영광을 받으십니다.(주1)
하나님을 찬양하고 함께 일하는 일꾼에게 예수님을 말해주는 약방의 사무원이, 온 나라 곳곳에 우뢰같이 복음을 전하는 인기있는 설교자만큼 하나님께 영광을 돌립니다. 하나님은 우리의 천직(天職)에서 우리의 섬김을 받으심으로써 영광을 받으십니다. 그대의 직업(종사업무)을 떠남으로써 본분의 길을 버리지 마십시오.
그대는 그대의 전문직(직업)에 종사하는 동안 그 직업의 명예를 손상하지 않도록 주의하십시오. 그대의 소명(召命, 직업)을 과소평가하지 마십시오. 모든 합법적 거래는 복음에 합당할 것입니다.
성경에 조회(문의)해 보십시오. 그러면 그대는 가장 천한 모양의 노동도 대담한 신앙행위(믿음의 일들)와 관계되어 있다는 것을 발견할 것입니다. 그러므로 그대의 소명(직업)에 불만하지 마십시오.
하나님께서 그대의 지위를 무엇으로 만드셨든지, 그대가 하나님께서 그대를 다른 어떤 것에로 그대를 부르신다는 것이 아주 확실하지 않는 한 그 지위(위치)에 머무십시오. 그대가 있는 곳에서 그대의 능력의 최대한도로 하나님을 영광스럽게 하는 것이 그대의 첫 번째 관심이 되게 하십시오. 만일 하나님이 그대를 다른 곳에서 필요하신다면 하나님은 그대에게 가르켜 주실 것입니다. 오늘 저녁, 골치아픈 포부(야망)일랑 제쳐두고 평온한 만족을 껴안으십시오.
