Evening
¡°Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said, ...
Be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods¡±(Daniel 3:16, 18).
The bold courage and marvelous deliverance of the three Hebrew children illustrates firmness and steadfastness in upholding truth in the teeth of tyranny and in the jaws of death. Both in matters of faith in God and matters of uprightness in business, never sacrifice your conscience. It is better to lose all rather than to lose your integrity. When all else is gone, still hold fast to a clear conscience as the rarest jewel which can adorn the human heart. Do not be guided by the shifting sands of policy, but follow the unwavering star of divine authority. When you see no present advantage, walk by faith and not by sight. Honor God by trusting Him when it comes to matters of loss for the sake of principle. He will prove His word that ¡°godliness with contentment is great gain¡±(1 timothy 6:6). ¡°Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you¡±(Matthew 6:33). It may happen that, in the providence of God, you suffer a loss by following your conscience. You will find that if the Lord does not pay you back in the silver of earthly prosperity, He will fulfill His promise in the gold of spiritual joy. Remember that ¡°a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth¡±(Luke 12:15). An honest spirit, a heart void of offense, and the favor of God are greater riches than mines of diamonds. ¡°Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith¡±(Proverbs 15:17). An ounce of deep and abiding peace is worth a ton of gold.
