¡°Straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him¡±
(Mark 1:18).
When they heard the call of Jesus, Simon and Andrew obeyed at once without question. If we would always, immediately and with resolute zeal, put into practice what we hear, our reading of the Bible could not fail to enrich us spiritually. A man will not lose his bread if he eats it at once. Neither can he be deprived of the benefit of doctrine if he has already acted upon it. Most readers and hearers become moved by a message and intend to change. But the proposal is a blossom which falls from the tree too soon, and no fruit is ever harvested from it. They wait, they waver, and then they forget. Like puddles during nights of frost and days of sunshine, they are only thawed in time to be frozen again. That fatal tomorrow is blood red with the murder of fair resolutions; it is the slaughter-house of good intentions. Be a doer of the Word. Truth that is both read and practiced is the most profitable. If you are impressed with any duty while meditating upon these pages, hasten to fulfill it before the holy glow departs from your soul. Leave your nets and all that you have, rather than be found rebellious to the Master's call. Do not give place to the devil by delay! Make haste while opportunity and desire are in happy conjunction. Do not be caught in your own nets, but break the mesh of worldliness, and come away to where glory calls you.
