"We know that all things work together for good to them that love God" (Romans 8: 28).
On some points a believer is absolutely sure. He knows, for instance, that God sits in the sternsheets of the vessel when it rocks most. He believes that an invisible hand is always on the world's tiller and that wherever providence may drift, Jehovah steers it. That reassuring knowledge prepares him for everything. He looks over the raging waters, sees the Spirit of Jesus treading the billows, and hears a voice saying, "It is I; be not afraid" (Mark 6: 50). He knows, too, that God is there can be no accidents and no mistakes. He can say, "If I would lose all I have, it is better to lose than to have, if God so wills." "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God." The Christian does not merely hold this as a theory, but he knows it as a matter of fact. Everything has worked for good as yet. Every event as yet has worked out the most divinely blessed results; and so, believing that God rules all, that He governs wisely, that He brings good out of evil, the believer's heart is assured. He is able to calmly meet each trial as it comes. The believer can, in the spirit of true resignation, pray, "Send me what You will, my God, so long as it comes from You. There never came an ill portion from Your table to any of Your children."

제목 : 합력하여 선을
요절 : "우리가 알거니와 하나님을 사랑하는 자 곧 그 뜻대로 부르심을 입은 자들에게는 모든 것이 합력하여 선을 이루느니라"(롬8:28)
성도들은 어떤 점들에 관하여는 절대적으로 확신합니다. 예컨대 배가 심히 요동할 때(흔들릴 때) 성도는 하나님이 그 배의 정미좌(艇尾座)에 앉아 계심을 압니다. 그리고 성도는, 보이지 않는 손길이 이 세상의 경영자위에 항상 계시사 어디든지 섭리의 흐름대로 그 배를 조종하시는 것을 믿습니다. 이 고무적인(용기를 주는) 지식이 성도로 하여금 모든 일에 대처하기 위한 준비를 하게 합니다. 그(성도)는 거센 파도를 보며, 큰 물결을 밟고 오시는 예수님의 영을 봅니다.
그리고 "내니 두려워 말라"(마6:50)라고 말씀하시는 주님의 음성을 듣습니다. 또 그는 하나님은 항상 지혜로우시다는 것을 압니다. 이것을 아는 성도는 사고나 실수는 절대로 있을 수 없다는 것을 확신합니다. 그래서 성도는 이렇게 말합니다. "하나님의 뜻이라면,내가 가진 모든 것을 잃는다 해도, 내가 갖는 것보다 잃는 것이 더 좋다"라고

그리스도인들은 이 말씀을 한 이론으로 생각하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 그것을 명백한 사실로 알고 있습니다. 이제껏(지금까지) 모든 것은 선을 위하여 역사했습니다. 지금 까지 일어난 모든 사건이 하나님의 가장 복된 결과들을 성취했습니다. 그래서 하나님이 모든 것을 다스리시고, 지혜롭게 지배하시고, 악에서조차 선을 이끌어 내신다는 사실을 믿음으로, 성도(믿는 자)의 마음은 확신을 갖게 됩니다. (이런 믿음으로) 성도는 시련이 닥쳐와도 그 시련을 조용히(차분히) 대처할 수 있는 것입니다.
모든 성도들은 진정한 순종의 영으로 이렇게 기도할 수 있습니다.
"나의 하나님, 그것이 하나님으로부터 오는 한(온다면) 하나님께서 원하시는 것은 무엇이든지 제게 보내 주십시오." 하나님의 식탁으로부터는 하나님의 어떤 자녀에게도 나쁜 몫(음식)이 나온 적이 없습니다.
