"Exceeding great and precious promises" (2 Peter 1: 4).
If you know the preciousness of the promises and enjoy them in your own heart, take time to meditate on them. Thinking over the hallowed words will often be the prelude to their fulfillment. Many a Christian who has thirsted for the promise has found the sought after blessing gently distilling into his soul while he is meditating on the promise. He rejoiced that he was led to lay the promise near his heart. But besides meditating on the promises, receive them as being the very words of God. Speak to your soul thus: "If I were dealing with a man's promise, I would carefully consider the ability and the character of the man who had covenanted with me. So with the promise of God. My eye must not be so much fixed on the greatness of the mercy as on the greatness of the Promiser. My soul, it is God, even your God, who cannot lie, and who speaks to you. This Word of His which you are now considering is as true as His own existence. He is an unchangeable God. He has not altered the thing which has gone out of His mouth or called back one single consolatory sentence. It is the God who made the heavens and the earth who has spoken. He cannot fail in wisdom as to the time when He will bestow the favors because He knows when it is best to give and when better to withhold. Therefore, I will and must believe the promise." If we meditate on the promises and consider the Promiser, we will experience their sweetness and obtain their fulfillment.

요절 : "이로써 그 보배롭고 지극히 큰 약속을 우리에게 주사 이 약속으로 말미암아 너희로 정욕을 인하여 세상에서 썩어질 것을 피하여 신의 성품에 참예하는 자가 되게 하려 하셨으니"(벧후1:4)
만일 그대가 하나님의 약속(말씀)의 그 귀중함을 알고 그대의 마음에서 그 말씀들을 즐거워 한다면 그 말씀들을 묵상하는 시간을 많이 가지십시오. 그 거룩한 약속(말씀)들을 곰곰히 생각하는 것(심사숙고하는 명상)은 종종 그 말씀의 성취의 전주곡(서막)이 될 수 있습니다.
하나님의 약속을 목말라 했던(갈망했던) 많은 그리스도인들이 그 약속의 말씀을 묵상하는 동안 그 말씀이 조용히 그 영혼에 스며들며 그 영혼을 정화(淨化)시켜서 그 추구했던 말씀의 축복을 발견했습니다.(그 묵상에 의하여) 그는 그의 마음에 하나님의 약속(말씀)을 끌어 놓게 되었던 것을 기뻐했습니다. 그리고 그 약속의 말씀을 묵상할 뿐만 아니라 또 그 약속들을 바로 진실한 하나님의 말씀으로 받아 들이십시오. 그리고 그대의 영혼에게 이렇게 말하십시오.
"만약 내가 어떤 사람의 약속을 취급(다룸)한다면, 나는 나와 계약했던(약속했던) 사람의 능력과 인품(인격성)을 신중히(조심스럽게) 고려해야 한다. 하나님의 약속도 마찬가지다. 나의 눈은 약속 자이신 하나님의 자신의 위대성보다 더 그 긍휼의 위대성에 고정시켜서는 안된다.(즉 하나님의 긍휼보다 하나님 자신의 위대성을 더 중시해야 한다.) 나의 영혼아, 너에게 말씀하시는 분은, 하나님, 곧 너의 하나님이시며, 거짓말을 하실 수 없는 하나님이시다. 네가 지금 숙고하고 있는 그 분의 말씀은 하나님 자신의 존재(실존) 만큼 참되다. 그 분은 변할 수 없는 하나님이시다. 그분은 그의 입에서 나간 것들(말씀들)을 변경하시지 않았고, 혹은 그가 기록하거나, 기록케 하신 한 단 하나의 위로의 글도 취소하시지 않으셨다. 말씀하신 분은 하늘과 땅을(천지를) 지으신 하나님이시다. 하나님은 우리에게 은혜를 주실 때에 관한 지혜도 절대로 부족하실 수 없다.(절대로 부족하시지 않다) 왜냐하면 하나님은 그것을 언제 주는 것이 가장 좋으며, 언제 보류하는 것이 더 나은지를 아시기 때문이다. 그러므로 나는 그 약속의 말씀들을 믿을 것이며 또 반드시 믿어야 한다."
만일 우리가 그 약속들을 묵상하고 그 약속 자(하나님)를 깊이 생각한다면, 우리는 그 약속하신 말씀의 감미로움(달콤함)과 그 약속(말씀)들의 성취를 얻을 것입니다.
