Primeval darkness heard the Almighty command, "Let there be light," and immediately there was light. The Word of the Lord Jesus is equal in majesty to that ancient word of power. Redemption, like creation, has its word of might. Jesus speaks, and it is done. Leprosy yielded to no human remedies, but it fled at once at the Lord's "I will." The disease exhibited no hopeful signs or tokens of recovery. The sinner is in a plight more miserable than the leper. Let him go to Jesus, beseeching Him and kneelking down to Him. Let him exercise what little faith he has, even if it can go no farther than, "Lord, if You will, You can make me clean." There need be no doubt as to the result. Jesus heals all who come and casts out none. In reading this morning's Scripture, notice that Jesus touched the leper. This unclean person had broken through the regulations of the ceremonial law and pressed into the house, but Jesus broke through the law Himself in order to meet him. Jesus Christ was made sin for us, although in Himself He knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. If only poor sinners would go to Jesus, believing in the power of His blessed substitutionary work, they would soon learn the power of His gracious touch. That hand which multiplied the loaves, which saved sinking Peter, which upholds afflicted saints, which crowns believers--that same hand will touch every seeking sinner and in a moment make him clean. The love of Jesus is the source of salvation.

태초(창세 전)의 어둠은 "빛이 있으라"(역자주1)라고 하신 전능 자(하나님)의 명령을 들었습니다. 그러자 즉시 빛이 있었습니다. 주 예수님의 말씀도 그 옛날의 말씀의 능력과 똑 같은 위엄을 갖고 있습니다. 구속도 창조와 같이 능력의 말씀을 갖고 있습니다. 예수님이 말씀하시면 그대로 이루어 지셨습니다. 문둥병은 어떤 인간적인 치료도 고치지 못했습니다. 그러나 "내가 원하노니 깨끗함을 받으라"고하신 주님의 말씀에 문둥병은 즉시 사라졌습니다. 원래 그 병(문둥병)은 아무런 희망의 조짐이나 회복의 표시가 없었습니다.(나타나지 않았습니다.) 그런데 죄인들은 그 문둥이보다 더 눈 뜨고 볼 수 없는 참상(慘狀)에 빼져 있습니다.
그러므로 죄인으로 하여금 예수님에게로 나아가서, 주님께 간청하게 하고, 주님께 무릎을 꿇게 하십시오. 비록 그의 믿음이 "주여, 원하시면 저를 깨끗게 하실 수 있나이다"(역자주2)라고 할 정도의 적은 믿음을 가졌을지라도 그로 하여금 그 적은 믿음이라도 행사하게 하십시오. 그 결과에 관하여는 의심할 필요가 없습니다. 예수님은 주님에게 온 모든 사람을 치료하셨고 누구도(단 한 사람도) 물리치지 않으셨습니다.
오늘 아침 이 성경 말씀을 읽으면서 예수께서 문둥이를 만지셨다는 것을 주목하십시오. 이 본문에 나오는 깨끗지 못한 문둥이는 구약의 의식법의 규정들을 위반했습니다. 그럼에도 그는 예수님을 만나기 위하여 사람들을 뚫고 그 집안으로 밀고 들어 갔습니다. 그러나 예수님은 그 문둥이를 만나 주시기 위하여 그 자신도 그 율법을 위반하셨습니다. 참으로 예수님은 그 자신 안에는 아무 죄도 없으신 것을 아시면서도 우리가 주님 안에서 하나님의 의가 되게 하기 위하여, 즉 우리를 위하여 죄가 되셨습니다.
그러므로 불상한 죄인들이 주님의 복된 대속의 사역의 능력을 믿으면서 예수님께 나가기만 하면, 그들은 곧 주님의 자비로운(은혜로운) 만짐(touch)의 능력을 알 것입니다. 떡 다섯 개로 오천명을 먹이고 남을 많은 분량으로 만드셨고,(역자주3) 갈릴리 바다에 빠져가는 베드로를 구하셨고,(역자주4) 수 많은 환난받는 성도를 붙드시고, 믿는 자들에게 면류관을 씌워주시는, 그 손길로 주님을 찾는 모든 죄인을 만져주셔서 한 순간에 그를 깨끗게 하실 것입니다. 참으로 예수님의 사랑의 손길이 구원의 원천입니다.
