Prayers are instantly noticed in heaven. The moment Saul began to pray, the Lord heard him. Here is comfort for the distressed but praying soul. Often a poor, brokenhearted one bends his knee but can only utter his wailing in the language of sighs and tears. Yet, that groan has made all the harps of heaven thrill with music. That tear has been caught by God and treasured in heaven. The suppliant whose fears prevent his words will be well understood by the Most High. He may only look up with misty eyes. Tears are the diamonds of heaven, and sighs are part of the music of Jehovah's court. They are numbered with the sublimest strains that reach the Majesty on high. Do not think that your prayer, however weak of trembling, will be unregarded. Jacob's ladder is lofty, but our prayer will climb its starry rounds. Our God not only hears prayer but also loves to hear it. "He forgetteth not the cry of the humble" (Psalm 9: 12). True, He does not regard high looks and lofty words. He does not care for the pomp and pagentry of kings. He does not listen to the swell of martial music. He does not regard the triumph and pride of man; but wherever there is a heart big with sorrow, a lip quivering with agony, a deep groan or a penitential sigh, the heart of Jehovah is open. He marks it down in the registry of His memory. He puts our prayers, like rose leaves, between the pages of His book of remembrance, and when the volume is opened at last, there will be a precious fragrance springing up from it.

제목 : 기도의 눈물
요절 : "주께서 가라사대 일어나 직가라 하는 거리로 가서 유다 집에서 다소 사람 사울이라 하는 자를 찾으라 저가 기도하는 중이다"(행9:11)
기도들은 천국에서 금방 압니다. 사울이 기도를 시작하는 순간, 주님은 그의 기도를 들으셨습니다. 여기 고통 받고 있으나 기도하는 영혼을 위한 위로가 있습니다. 가끔 빈곤하고 상심한 사람이 그의 무릎을 꿇고 한숨과 눈물의 신음으로 통곡밖에 할 수 없는 것을 봅니다. 그런데 그 신음이 하늘의 모든 거문고를 울려 음악소리를 냅니다. 그 눈물을 하나님이 받으셔서 하늘에 있는 병에 담으십니다.(역자주1) 두려워서 말을 제대로 못하는 간구자의 심정을 지존 자이신 하나님께서 잘 이해해 주실 것입니다.
그(간구 자)는 아마 눈물어린 눈으로만 처다 볼지도 모릅니다. 그러나 그 눈물들은 하늘의 다이아몬드들이고 여호와의 궁정의 음악의 일부입니다. 그 눈물들은 높은 위엄의 보좌(하나님)에 도달하는 가장 고귀한 가락(곡조)들로 계산됩니다. 그대의 기도가 아무리 약하고 떨릴지라도 하늘에서 무시될 것이라고 생각하지 마십시오. 야곱의 사닥다리는 높이 하늘에 닿았지만,(역자주2) 우리의 기도는 저 창공에 빤짝이는 무수한 별 기둥들을 타고 더 높은 보좌에 오를 것입니다. 우리의 하나님은 기도를 들으실 뿐만 아니라 또한 기도를 들으시기를 좋아하십니다. "그는 겸손한 자의 부르짖음을 잊지 않으십니다."(시9:12) 진실한 말씀입니다. 하나님은 뛰어난 외모나 고상한 말을 중이 여기지 않으십니다.
하나님은 세상 왕들의 화려한 행열이나 겉치레(허식)를 외면 하십니다. 또 하나님은 웅장한 군악소리 같은 것도 듣지 않으십니다. 하나님은 인간의 승리감이나 자랑(교만함)에도 관심을 갖지 않으십니다. 그러나 슬픔에 가득찬 마음, 괴로움으로 떠는 입술, 깊은 신음소리나 참회의 한숨소리가 있는 곳에는 언제나 여호와의 마음은 열립니다. 하나님은 그것을 하나님의 기억의 기록부에 기록해 두십니다. 하나님은 우리의 기도를 장미 꽃잎처럼 그의 추억의 책 갈피 사이에 끼워 두십니다. 그리고 마침내 그 책이 열릴 때 그 책 속에서 아름다운 향기가 솟아 나올 것입니다.
