"As is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly" (1 Corinthians 15: 48).
The head and members of the Body of Christ are of one nature. They are not like that monstrous image which Nebuchadnezzar saw in his dream. The head was of fine gold, but the belly and thighs were of brass, the legs were of iron, and the feet were part iron and part clay. Christ's mystical body is no absurd combination of opposites. The members were mortal, and therefore Jesus died. The glorified Head is immortal, and therefore the body is immortal too. The record stands: "Because I live, ye shall live also" (John 14: 19). As is our loving Head, such is the body, and every member in particular. A chosen Head and chosen members; an accepted Head and accepted members; a living Head and living members. If the Head is pure gold, all the parts of the body are of pure gold also. Pause here, devout reader, and see if you can contemplate the infinite condescension of the Son of God in thus exalting your wretchedness into blessed union with His glory. In remembrance of mortality, you may say to corruption, "You are my father," and to the worm, "You are my sister." Yet, in Christ you are so honored that you can say to the Almighty, "Abba, Father," and to the Incarnate God, "You are my brother and my husband." Surely if relationships to ancient and noble families make men think highly of themselves, we have much more reason to glory above them all.

그대는 죽을 수밖에 없는 자신을 기억할 때 그대는 부패(corruption)에게 "너는 나의 아버지다"라고 말하고, 벌레를 보고 "너는 나의 누이이다"말할지도 모릅니다. 그러나 그리스도 안에서는 너무 영광스러운 존재이기 때문에 그대는 전능하신 하나님께 "아바 아버지"라고 말할 수 있고, 성 육신하신 하나님(예수 그리스도)께 "주님은 나의 형제요, 나의 남편입니다."라고 말할 수 있습니다. 정말로 옛적의 문벌(친척관계)이나, 귀족의 가족이라는 신분이 그 사람들로 하여금 자신들을 높게 생각하게 한다면, 우리는 그런 사람들보다 훨씬 더 자랑할 만한 이유를 갖고 있습니다.(역자추가 : 왜냐하면 우리는 예수 그리스도 안에서 하나님의 자녀라는 신분을 갖고 있기 때문입니다.)
