"We are come to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel" (Hebrews 12: 24).
Reader, have you come to the blood of sprinkling? The question is not whether you have come to a knowledge of doctrine or an observance of ceremonies or to a certain form of experience, but have you come to the blood of Jesus? The blood of Jesus is the life of all vital godliness. If you have truly come to Jesus, we know how you came--the Holy Spirit sweetly brought you there. You came to the blood of sprinkling with no merits of your own. Guilty, lost, and helpless, you came to take that blood, and that blood alone, as your everlasting hope. You came to the cross of Christ with a trembling and an aching heart. Oh, what a precious sound it was for you to hear the voice of the blood of Jesus! The dropping of His blood is as the music of heaven to the penitent sons of earth. We are full of sin, but the Savior bids us lift our eyes to Him, and, as we gaze on His streaming wounds, each drop of blood, as it falls, cries, "It is finished; I have made an end of sin; I have brought in everlasting righteousness." Oh, sweet language of the precious blood of Jesus! If you have come to that blood once, you will come to it constantly. It is only by daily coming to Christ alone that you will find joy and comfort.

이 글을 읽는 독자님, 그대는 예수께서 뿌리신 피에 이르렀습니까? 참으로 중요한 문제는 그대가 기독교의 교리를 아느냐, 교회의 의식들을 준수를 했느냐, 어떤 형식의 신앙적 체험을 했느냐가 아니라 '그대가 예수님의 피에 이르렀느냐?'입니다.(물론 교리도 알아야 하고, 교회의 의식들도 준수해야 하고, 여러 가지의 신앙체험도 필요합니다. 그러나 더 중요한 것은 예수님의 피의 은혜와 능력에 관한 산 믿음입니다.) 예수님의 피는 모든 참된 경건(신앙심)의 생명입니다.
그대가 진실로 예수님께 오셨다면 우리는 그대가 어떻게 왔는지 잘 압니다. 즉 성령께서 그대를 친절하게 그 곳(there, 예수님의 피)으로 모셔온 것입니다. 그대는 그대 자신의 아무런 공로도 없이 주님의 뿌린 피에 이른 것입니다. 죄짓고, 길을 잃고, 고립무원의 상태에 있던 그대가 그 피, 곧 그 피만을 그대의 영원한 소망으로서 갖기 위하여 온 것입니다. 그대는 떨리고 아픈 마음(가슴)을 갖고 그리스도의 십자가로 왔습니다. 오, 그대가 듣는 그리스도의 그 핏소리가 얼마나 귀한 울림인지요! 예수님의 핏방울 소리는 이 땅에서 회개한 자녀들에겐 하늘의 음악과 같습니다. 우리는 죄로 가득하지만 구세주(예수그리스도)는 우리에게 우리의 눈을 들어 그를 쳐다 보라고 분부하십니다.
그리고 주님의 피가 흘러나오는 상처를 응시하면, 핏방울이 떨어질 때, 그 모든 핏방울은 "다 이루었다. 내가 죄를 끝나게 했다. 내가 영원한 의를 가져 왔다."라고 부르짓습니다. 오, "예수님의 보배로운 피"는 얼마나 아름다운 말(언어)입니까! 그러므로 그대가 일단 그 피에 이르렀으니 그대는 항상 그 피와 함께 있어야 할 것입니다. 그대가 기쁨과 위로를 발견할 수 있는 길은 오직 날마다 그리스도에게만 나아오는 것뿐입니다.
