"My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me" (Psalm 22: 1).
No other place so well shows the griefs of Christ as Calvary, and no other moment at Calvary is so full of agony as that in which His cry rends the air--"My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" At this moment, physical weakness was united with acute mental torture from the shame and disgrace through which He had to pass. To make His grief culminate with emphasis, He suffered spiritual agony surpassing all expression, resulting from the departure of His Father's presence. This was the black midnight of His horror. it was then that He descended the abyss of suffering. No man can enter into the full meaning of these words. Some of us think at times that we could cry, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" There are seasons when the brightness of our Father's smile is eclipsed by clouds and darkness, but let us remember that God never does really forsake us. It is only a seeming forsaking of us, but in Christ's case it was a real forsaking. In our case, our cry is often dictated by unbelief. In His case, it was the utterance of a dreadful fact, for God had really turned away from Him for a season. Since even the thought that He has forsaken us gives us agony, what must the woe of the Savior have been when He exclaimed, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

요절 : "내 하나님이여 내 하나님이여 어찌 나를 버리셨나이까 어찌 나를 멀리하여 돕지 아니하옵시며 내 신음하는 소리를 듣지 아니하시나이까"(시22:1)
어떤 곳도 갈보리만큼 그리스도의 슬픔을 잘 나타내 보인 곳은 없습니다. 그리고 갈보리에서 주님께서 "내 하나님이여 내 하나님이여 어찌 나를 버리셨나이까?"라고 하늘을 찢는(찌르는)비명을 부르짖을 때 만큼 고통이 가득한(극심한) 순간도 없었습니다. 이 순간에는 주님께서 통과하셔야 했던 수치와 굴욕에서 오는 격렬한 정신적 고통에 육체적 탈진(脫盡)이 겹쳤습니다. 게다가 주님의 슬픔을 강하게 극대화 시킨 것은 하나님 아버지의 임재에서 격리(분리)됨에서 오는 형언할 수 없는 영적 고통을 겪었다는 것입니다.
이것은 주님에게는 칠흑같은 공포의 한 밤중이었습니다. 그때 주님은 고난의 심연에 빠지셨습니다. 이 세상의 어떤 사람도 주님이 부르짖으신 이 말씀(시22:1)의 완전한 의미를 이해할 수 없습니다. 우리 중 어떤 이들은 때때로 우리도, "내 하나님이여 내 하나님이여 어찌 나를 버리셨나이까?"라고 부르짖을 수 있다고 생각합니다. 물론 우리에게도 하나님 아버지의 미소의 빛이 구름과 어둠에 가리워 질 때가 있습니다. 그러나 그럴 때 조차도 하나님은 정말로 우리를 버리시지 않는다는 것을 기억해야 합니다. 그것은 외관상 우리를 버리신 것처럼 보일뿐입니다.
그러나 그리스도의 경우에는 정말로 버리신 것입니다. 우리의 경우를 보면, 우리의 부르짖음은 종종 불신앙에서 나오는 소리입니다. 그러나 주님의 경우에는, 정말 두려운 상황 속에서 울부짖은 말이었습니다. 왜냐하면 하나님 아버지는 정말로 한동안 주님으로부터 돌아서셨습니다.(즉 외면하시고 버렸습니다) 우리는 하나님이 우리를 버리셨다는 생각만해도 고통스러운데, 주님께서 "내 하나님이여 내 하나님이여 어찌 나를 버리셨나이까?"라고 부르짖었을 때 구세주의 비통은 어떠하셨겠습니까!
