"Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings" (Ephesians 1: 3).
All the goodness of the past, the present, and the future, Christ bestows on His people. In the mysterious ages of the past, the Lord Jesus was His Father's first elect. He had from all eternity the prerogatives of Sonship. By adoption and regeneration, He has elevated us to Sonship also. The eternal covenant, based on suretyship and confirmed by oath, is ours. In the everlasting settlements of predestinating wisdom and omnipotent decree, the eye of the Lord Jesus was ever fixed on us. The marvelous incarnation of the God of heaven, with all the amazing condescension and humiliation which attended it, is ours. The bloody sweat, the scourge, and the cross are ours forever. Whatever blissful consequences flow from perfect obedience, finished atonement, resurrection, ascension, or intercession, are all ours by His own gift. Upon His breastplate He is now bearing our names. He employs His dominion over principalities and powers for those who trust in Him. His high estate is as much at our service as was His condition of abasement. He who gave Himself for us in the depths of woe and death, does not withdraw the grant now that He is enthroned in the highest heavens.

요절 : "찬송하리로다 하나님 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지께서 그리스도 안에서 하늘에 속한 모든 신령한 복으로 우리에게 복 주시되"(엡1:3)
그리스도는 과거와 현재와 미래의 모든 선한 것을 그의 백성들에게 베푸시고 계십니다. 주 예수님은 과거의 신비한 시대(창세이전 천국에서)에 첫 번째로 그의 아버지 하나님의 선택을 받으신 분입니다. 예수님은 영원 전부터 아들로서의(즉 성자로서의)특권을 갖고 계셨습니다.(역자주1)
그리고 하나님은 또 우리도 양자로 받으시고 중생시킴으로써 아들로 높여 주셨습니다. 그리고 하나님의 영원한 언약은 하나님의 보증이 되심과 맹서에 의하여 우리의 것이 되었습니다.(역자주2) 주님의 눈은, 미리 예정하시는 지혜와 전능하신 섭리에 의한 영원한 작정 속에서 우리들 위에 언제나 집중하셨습니다. 하늘의 하나님의 그 신비한 성육신(成肉身)은 그 놀라운 모든 겸손하심과 그에 따른 굴욕과 함께 다 우리의 것입니다. 그 핏방울 같이 떨어진 땀(역자주3), 그 채찍, 그리고 그 십자가도 영원히 우리의 것입니다.
그리고 주님의 완전한 순종, 다 이루신 속죄, 부활, 승천과 중보(기도)하심에서 흘러나오는 그 어떤 행복한(복된) 결과(은혜들)이든 다 주님의 선물로서 우리의 것입니다. 주님은 지금 하늘의 대제사장으로서 그의 흉패(胸牌)위에 우리들의 이름을 달고 계십니다.(역자주4) 주님은 그를 믿는 자들을 위하여 모든 권세자들과 능력자들을 통치(지배)하고 계십니다. 주님이 굴욕을 받으셨던 만큼(낮아 지셨던 만큼) 우리는 지금 높이 주님을 섬깁니다.
우리를 위하여 비통과 죽음의 심연(깊이)에서 자신을 내어 주셨던 주님은 지금 지극히 높은 하늘의 보좌에 앉아 계시지만 그 은혜(즉 자신을 주심, the grant)를 철회(취소)하지 않고 계십니다.[즉 지금도 우리(죄인)를 위하여 자신을 주시고 계십니다.]
