"There fell down many slain, because the war was of God" (1 Chronicles 5: 22).
Warrior, fighting under the banner of the Lord Jesus, observe this verse with holy joy; for as it was in the days of old, so it is now. If the war is of God, the victory is sure. The sons of Reuben, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh could barely muster forty-five thousand fighting men. Yet, in their war with the Hagarites, they slew "men a hundred thousand." They cried to God in the battle, and He interceded for them because they put their trust in Him. If we go forth in Jehovah's name, the Lord of Hosts is with us as our Captain. They did not neglect buckler, sword, and bow, neither did they place their trust in these weapons. We must use all fitting means, but our confidence must rest in the Lord alone. He is the sword and the shield of His people. The great reason for their extraordinary success lay in the fact that "the war was of God." Beloved, in fighting with sin without and within, with error doctrinal or practical, with spiritual wickedness in high places or low places, with devils and the devil's allies, you are waging Jehovah's war. The battle is the Lord's, and He will deliver His enemis into our hands.

주 예수님의 깃발아래 싸우는 전사여, 거룩한 기쁨을 갖고 이 절(대상5:22)의 말씀을 잘 관찰해 보십시오. 왜냐하면 이 말씀은 옛날 이스라엘에서 있었던 것같이 지금도 그렇기 때문입니다. 만일 전쟁이 하나님께 속한 것이라면 그 승리는 확실한 것입니다. 르우벤 자손과 갓지파와 므낫세 반지파(부족)에서 싸울 만한 용사로 모인 자는 겨우 45,000명이었습니다. 그런데 그들이 하갈 사람들과의 전쟁에서 그들이 십만명을 죽였습니다. 그것은 그들이 그 전쟁에서 하나님께 부르짖었습니다. 그래서 주님은 그들이 주님께 의뢰했기 때문에 그들을 위하여 들어주셨습니다.(역자주1)
만일 우리가 여호와의 이름으로 나아간다면, 만군의 주님은 우리의 대장으로서 우리와 함께 싸우실 것입니다. 물론 그들은 방패와 칼과 활을 무시하지 않았습니다. 그러나 그들은 그들의 의뢰를 이들 무기에 두지 않았습니다.(즉 자기들의 무기보다 먼저 하나님을 의뢰했습니다.) 우리도 모든 적절한 수단을 활용해야 합니다. 그러나 우리의 신뢰(의지)는 주님에게 만 두어야 합니다. 주님은 그의 백성의 검(칼)이고 방패입니다. 그들의 비상한 대성공의 큰 이유는 "그 전쟁이 하나님께로 말미암았음이라"는 사실에 있습니다.(대상5:22) 사랑하는 그대여, 그대의 안팎에 있는 죄, 교리적인 오류나 관행상의 오류, 높은 곳이나 낮은 곳에 있는 영적 악함, 악마들과 악마의 동류와 싸울 때에, 그대는 여호와의 싸움을 싸우는 것입니다. 그 전쟁은 주님(여호와)의 전쟁입니다. 그리고 주님은 그의 원수들을 우리의 손 안에 넘겨 주실 것입니다.
