19. 기독교의 부의 본질과 근원

1.부(富)의 본질(Nature)과 근원(Cause)

(1) 부의 본질(Nature)의 변화

부(富)의 본질(Nature)이 무엇인가에 대한 견해는 경제사회의 특징에 따라 다르다. 역사적으로 개관하면 다음과 같다.

A : 고대사회(Antiquity, A.D.5C이전)

서구의 고대사회에서는 노예경제사회(Slavery system)로서 노예가 생산력의 핵심이기 때문에 노예를 많이 갖고 있는 것이 부자였다. 따라서 부의 본질(Nature)은 노예가 된다. 특히 로마의 노예에 의한 라티푼디아(Latifundia, 대농제도)는 그 역사적 실증이다.

B : 봉건주의(Feudalism, A.D.5C-15C)시대

중세 봉건주의(feudalism) 사회는 영주(Land Lord)의 토지에서 농노(Serf)들이 농사를 지어 수확의 일부를 지주(owner)에게 지대(Rent)를 바쳤던 농업경제체제였기 때문에 농지가 곧 부의 바탕(Nature)이었다. 즉 토지를 많이 갖고 있는 영주가 부자였다.

C : 중상주의(mercantilism, 15c-18c)시대

중상주의시대의 사회에서는 화폐(금,은등 귀금속)가 곧 부의 본질이 되어서, 각국은 무역차액을 통하여 화폐를 축적하기 위하여 수출을 장려하고 수입은 억제하는 무역정책의 강화로 국가간의 심한 갈등과 분쟁을 일으켰다. 이 시대에는 돈이 곧 부였다.

D : 중농주의(Physiocracy, 18c)사상

중상주의의 폐단에 대한 반발로 불란서의 케네(F.Quesnay, 1694-1774)등이 경제는 하나님의 섭리에 의한 질서(자연법적질서)에 따라야 한다는 중농주의 사상을 주장하여 부는 곧 농산물이라고 하였다.

E : 고전파(A.Smith)사상(Classical school, 1776)

영국의 아담 스미스(Adam Smith, 1723-1790)는 부의 본질을 화폐가 아닌 노동생산물로 보았다.(더 자세한 내용은 다음 (2)에서 언급된다.)

(2) 아담 스미스의 부의 근원(Cause)

경제학의 아버지(시조)라고 할 수 있는 아담 스미스(Adam Smith, 1723-1790)는 그의 저서 국부론(An inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the wealth of Nations, 1776)에서 "모든 국민의 노동은 원래 그 국민이 해마다 소비하는 생활필수품과 편의품을 공급하는 자원이며, 이 생활필수품과 편의품은 노동의 직접생산물이거나, 아니면 그 생산물을 가지고 다른 국민들로부터 교환한 것이다."

(The annual labour of every nation is the fund which originally supplies it with all the necessaries and convenienees of life which it annually consumes, and which consist always, either in the immediate produce of that labour, or in what is purchased with that produce from other nations.)라고 말하면서

부의 본질(nature)은 노예나 토지는 물론 중상주의(mercantilism)에서 보는 것처럼 화폐(Money)가 아니며, 중농주의(Physiocracy)에서 말하는 순 농산물만도 아닌, 모든 노동생산물, 즉 재화[공산품(manufacture)포함]이며 그것들의 근원(cause)은 매년의 사회적노동이라고 하여 노동가치설(勞動價値說)을 주장하였다. 이 이론은 맑스(K.Marx)에 이어져, 그는 사회의 부는, "방대한 상품(재화)의 집적(集積)"이며 개개의 상품은 그 부(富)의 기본형태(elementary form)이라고 표현하였다. 오늘날은 부의 근원이 노동(Labour)에서 자본(Capital), 기술(Technology), 정보(Information)·지식(Knowledge)으로 그 중점이 이동하고 있으나, 이것들도 본원적인 생산요소인 노동(특히 정신노동)의 파생요소인 것은 틀림없다.

(3) 부(Wealth, prosperity, riches)의 일반적 정의(definition)

오늘날 일반적인 부의 경제적 개념은 "가격으로 측정할 수 있는, 경제가치를 갖고 있는 모든 것"(Everything having economic value measurable in price)라고 정의되고 있다. 또 부(prosperity, 번영 또는 형통)의 철학적 개념은 "사람이 그가 필요로 하는 모든 것을 갖고 그것을 향수(享受)할 수 있는 역량을 갖고 있는 상태"(that status in which one has all he needs and the capacity to enjoy it.)라고도 한다.

2. 기독교의 부의 본질(nature)과 근원(Cause)

(1) 기독교와 부(Prosperity, riches, wealth)의 본질(nature)

첫째, 사람이 그가 필요로 하는 모든 것을 갖고 그것을 향수할 수 있는 역량을 갖고 있는 상태(that status in which one has all needs and the capacity to enjoy it)이고,

둘째, 또 우리의 필요상황에서 하나님을 움직일 수 있는 능력(역량)(the capacity to move God into action at the point of our needs)을 포함한다. 물론 이때의 부(prosperity)는 전반적 개념(all-inclusive)으로서 인생에 있어서의 모든 영역과 필요품을 다 포함한다.

셋째, 동시에 하나님과 내적 자아(인간의 영혼을 의미함)와의 화평(평안)의식(a sense of peace with God and one's inner self)이 동반되어야 한다.

사람이 돈은 풍부하나 마음에 평안이 없거나 물질적 재물은 풍부하나 정서적 건강이 빈약할 때에는 참된 부의 의미에서는 부요로운 것이 아니다. 즉 은행계좌의 예금액수나, 부동산의 보유고나, 주택의 방 수들은 참된 부와는 거의 관련이 없는 사실들이다.

(One is not properous in the true sense of the term when one is rich in money and poor in peace of mind, or rich in material matters while poor in emotional health. With true prosperity, the digits of one's bank account, Vastness of real estate holdings, or number of bedrooms in one's residence are facts that have little bearing.)

따라서 성경은 평안과 부(prosperity, riches, wealth)를 함께 말씀하고 있다.

"예루살렘을 위하여 평안을 구하라 예루살렘을 사랑하는 자는 형통(prosperity)하리로다. 네 성안에는 평강이 있고 네 궁중에는 형통이 있을 지어다."

[Pray for the peace of Jerusalem : they shall prosper that love thee Peace be within thy walls and Prosperity within thy palaces.(Ps.122:6-7)][필자주 : 이 절에서는 부(prosperity)를 형통이라고 번역했음)

이와같이 두 단어(평안과 부)가 함께 할 때 완전한 상태가 된다.(Both terms seem to suggest a complete state.)

또 성경은 부와 영광(honour)과 생명(life)도 함께 한다고 기록하고 있다.

"부와 귀가 주께로 말미암고.....(대상29:12)

["Both riches and honour come of thee...."(Chr.29:12)]

"겸손과 여호와를 경외함의 보응은 재물과 영광과 생명이니라."

[By humility and fear of the Lord are riches, and honor, and life."(Prov.22:4)]

요컨대 기독교의 부의 본질(nature)은 예수 그리스도 안에서 하나님께서 주신 풍성(주1), 능력(주2), 평안(주3)과 영생(주4)의 축복(blessing)이라고 정의할 수 있다.(주5)

주1 "내가 온 것은 양으로 생명을 얻게 하고 더 풍성히 얻게 하려는 것이다."(요10:10)

["I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it move abundantly."(John.10:10)]

주2 "내게 능력 주시는 자 안에서 내가 모든 것을 할 수 있느니라"(빌4:13)

["I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."(Phil.4:13)]

주3 "그리하면 모든 지각에 뛰어난 하나님의 평강이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희 마음과 생각을 지키시리라"(빌4:7)

["And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."(Phil.4:7)]

주4 "내가 주는 물을 먹는 자는 영원히 목마르지 아니하리니 나의 주는 물은 그 속에서 영생하도록 솟아나는 샘물이 되리라"(요4:14)

["But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst ; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."(John.4:14)](참고절: 요5:24)

주5 "사랑하는 자여 네 영혼이 잘 됨같이 네가 범사에 잘 되고 강건하기를 내가 간구하노라."(요삼1:2)

(2) 기독교의 부의 근원(Cause)

위와 같이 기독교에 있어서의 참된 부(true prosperity)는 하나님께로 말미암는다(대상29:12) 즉 기독교인의 부의 근원은 하나님(예수 그리스도)과 그의 언약(promise)이시다. 왜냐하면 하나님이 만물의 창조 주(Creator)이시고, 만물의 소유주(Owner)이시고, 또 부의 언약을 주신 분(Promisor)이기 때문이다.

① 만물의 창조 주(Creator)이신 하나님(예수 그리스도)

"태초에 하나님이 천지를 창조하시니라"(창1:1)

[In the beginning God Created the heaven and the earth."(Gen.1:1)]

"태초에 말씀이 계시니라 이 말씀이 하나님과 함께 계셨으니 이 말씀은 곧 하나님이시라 그가 태초에 하나님과 함께 계셨고 만물이 그로 말미암아 지은 바되었으니 지은 것이 하나도 그가 없이는 된 것이 없느니라"(요1:1-3)(필자주 : 이때의 하나님은 예수 그리스도임)

["In the beginning was the word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made."(John.1:1-3)]

"만물이 인하고 만물이 말미암은 자 .... (히2:10)

["For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, ..."(Heb2:10)](필자주: 만물이 예수 그리스도에 의하여 창조되었고, 또 그를 위하여 창조되었다.)

"그는 보이지 아니하시는 하나님의 형상이요 모든 창조물보다 먼저 나신 자니 만물이 그에게 창조되되 하늘과 땅에서 보이는 것들과 보이지 않는 것들과 혹은 보좌들이나 주관들이나 정사들이나 권세들이나 만물이 다 그로 말미암고 그를 위하여 창조되었고 또한 그가 만물보다 먼저 계시고 만물이 그 안에 함께 섰느니라"(골1:15-17; 롬11:36)

["Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature : For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers : all things were created by him, and for him :And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."(Col.1:15-17; Rom.11:36)]

② 만물의 소유주(Owner)이신 하나님(예수 그리스도)

"여호와여 광대하심과 권능과 영광과 이김과 위엄이 다 주께 속하였사오니 천지에 있는 것이 다 주의 것이로소이다. 여호와여 주권도 주께 속하였사오니 주는 높으사 만유의 머리심이니이다. 부와 귀가 주께로 말미암고 또 주는 만유의 주재가 되사 손에 권세와 능력이 있사오니 모든 자를 크게 하심과 강하게 하심이 주의 손에 있나이다."(대상29:11-12)

["Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom,O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.

Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all."(1Chr.29:11-12)]

"아버지께서 아들에게 주신 모든 자에게 영생을 주게 하시려고 만민을 다스리는 권세를 아들에게 주셨음이로소이다."(요17:2)

["As thou hast given him power over all fresh, that he should give eternal life to as many as many as thou hast given him."(John.17:2)](필자주: 하나님의 모든 권세가 예수 그리스도의 권세가 되었다는 뜻임)

"내 것은 다 아버지의 것이요 아버지의 것은 내 것이 온데 내가 저희로 말미암아 영광을 받았나이다."(요17:10)

["And all mine are thine, and thine are mine ; and I am glorified in them."(John.17:10)]

③ 언약자(Promisor)이신 하나님(예수 그리스도)

"네가 네 하나님 여호와의 말씀을 삼가 듣고 내가 오늘날 네게 명하는 그 모든 명령을 지켜 행하면 네 하나님 여호와께서 너를 세계 모든 민족 위에 뛰어나게 하실 것이라 네가 네 하나님 여호와의 말씀을 순종하면 이 모든 복이 네게 임하여 네게 미치리니 성읍에서도 복을 받고 들에서도 복을 받을 것이며 네 몸의 소생과 네 토지의 소산과 네 짐승의 새끼와 우양의 새끼가 복을 받을 것이며 네 광주리와 떡 반죽 그릇이 복을 받을 것이며 네가 들어와도 복을 받고 나가도 복을 받을 것이니라"(신28:1-6)

["And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth : And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of the body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when goest out."(Deu.28:1-6)]

"만군의 여호와가 이르노라 너희의 온전한 십일조를 창고에 들여 나의 집에 양식이 있게 하고 그것으로 나를 시험하여 내가 하늘 문을 열고 너희에게 복을 쌓을 곳이 없도록 붓지 아니하나 보라 만군의 여호와가 이르노라 내가 너희를 위하여 황충을 금하여 너희 토지 소산을 멸하지 않게 하며 너희 밭에 포도나무의 과실로 기한 전에 떨어지지 않게 하리니 너희 땅이 아름다와지므로 열방이 너희를 복되다 하리라 만군의 여호와의 말이니라"(말3:10-12)

["Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground ; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed : for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts."(Mal.3:10-12)]

"네 재물과 네 소산물의 처음 익은 열매로 여호와를 공경하라 그리하면 네 창고가 가득히 차고 네 즙틀에 새 포도즙이 넘치리라."(잠3:9-10)

["Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase : So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine."(Porv.3:9-10)]

"내가 온 것은 양으로 생명을 얻게 하고 더 풍성히 얻게 하려는 것이라"(요10:10)

["I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abuntantly."(John.10:10)]

"그러므로 염려하여 이르기를 무엇을 먹을까 무엇을 마실까 무엇을 입을까 하지 말라 이는 다 이방인들이 구하는 것이라 너희 천부께서 이 모든 것이 너희에게 있어야 할 줄을 아시느니라. 너희는 먼저 그의 나라와 그의 의를 구하라 그리하면 이 모든 것을 너희에게 더하시리라"(마6:31-33)

["Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? or, what shall we drink? or, wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knowth that ye have need of all these things.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteouness; and all these things shall be added unto you."(Matt.6:31-33)]

"우리 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜를 너희가 알거니와 부요하신 자로서 너희를 위하여 가난하게 되심은 그의 가난함을 인하여 너희로 부요케 하려 하심이니라"(고후8:9)

["For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich."(2Cor.8:9)]

"주라 그리하면 너희에게 줄 것이요 곧 후히 되어 누르고 흔들어 넘치도록 하여 너희에게 안겨 주리라 너희의 헤아리는 그 헤아림으로 너희도 헤아림을 도로 받을 것이니라"(눅6:38)

["Give and it shall be given unto you : good measure, pressed down. and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."(Luke.6:38)]

"나의 하나님이 그리스도 예수 안에서 영광 가운데 그 풍성한 대로 너희 모든 쓸 것을 채우시리라"(빌4:19)

["But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus"(Phil.4:19)]

그러므로 누구든지 이 성경구절들을 순진하게 믿고 기독교 신앙의 내용(말씀)들을 실천하는 사람은 기적적인 생활형태(풍성한 삶의 모습)의 변화를 확실히 이룰 것이다.

(I can safely say that a miraculous transformation in life-style awaits anyone who simply believes this passages and lives out the terms of that belief.)

3. 언약(부의 근원)의 특징

기독교에서의 부(Prosperity, wealth, riches)는 우리의 심신의 모든 차원의 풍성한 충족을 말한다. 그리고 그러한 풍성한 부의 근원(Cause)은 하나님의 언약(약속의 말씀)에서 온다. 그 언약의 구체적인 특성(characteristic)을 명확히 나타내고 있는 빌립보서의 말씀(빌4:19)을 해설한 테일러(Jack R. Taylor)의 해설을 요약하면 다음과 같다.

(1) 언약의 말씀

"나의 하나님이 그리스도 예수 안에서 영광 가운데 그 풍성한 대로 너희 모든 쓸 것을 채우시리라."(빌4:19)

["But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus"(Phil.4:19)]

(2) 언약(약속)의 방향(The derection of the promise)

본문 요절(빌4:19)은 바울이 주는 것(giving)을 실천하고 있었든 권속들에게 말하고 있다는 것을 명백히 알 수 있다. 그는 "자기의 괴로움에 함께 참예한 것"["Communicating to his affliction"(Phil.4:14)]을 말하고 있기 때문이다.

그리고 그는 빌립보 사람들이 주고 받는 그의 일에 참예한 교회들 중에 유일한 교회라고 말했다.(빌4:15)

[They were the only ones among the churches who had communicated with him regarding giving and receiving,]

그들(빌립보 사람들)은 바울이 데살로니가에 있는 동안 두 번이나 그의 쓸 것(his necessity)을 보냈다. 그러므로 그는 분명히 주는 행위로 그의 필요에 참예한 사람들과 그리고 그의 필요에 다시 준 사람들과 이야기하고 있다.

이 절(빌4:19)은 많은 사람에 의하여, 모든 수준(단계)에 있는 모든 것에 보편적인 것으로 인용되지만 그 문맥은, '가장 확실한 근거는 주는 사람의 마음의 도량(度量)이라는 것'을 주장하고 있다. 우리가 다른 사람의 필요에 민감할 때(남을 잘 도울 때) 우리의 공급을 보시는 분은 하나님이시다. 여기에 또 우리가 눅6:38에서 만나는 원리가 있다. "주라 그리하면 너희에게 줄 것이니"(눅6:38)라는 말씀이다.

다른 사람의 필요를 충족시키는 근원이 되는 사람들은 하나님이 그들의 필요를 충족시키는 근원이시라는 것을 발견할 것이다.

(While the verse may be taken by many to be universal to everything on every level, its context demands that the safest ground is the qualification of a giving heart. As we are sensitive to the needs of others, it is God who sees to our supply. Here again is the principle that we encountered in Luke 6:38, "Give, and it shall be given unto you." Those who become the sources of meeting the needs of others will discover that God is the source of meeting theirs.)

(3) 약속의 동력(역학)(The dynamic of the promise)

이것은 바울의 직접적인 선언이었다. 말의 수사(修辭)가 없다.

(There was no mincing of words.)

그의 신앙고백은 "나의 하나님이 하실 것이다."이다.

(His confession in, "My God shall.")

여기 약속(언약)의 동력이 설 수 있는 세가지 위대한 초석이 있다.

(There are three great foundation stones upon which stands the dynamic of this promise.)

첫째, 바울의 체험의 확실성이다.(There is the authenticity of Paul's experience.) 그는 그 자신의 필요를 공급 받았다. 삶의 바탕(토대)에서 말하였다.

그는 다른 사람의 필요의 충족을 위하여 그 자신이 버렸을 때(남에게 주었을 때) 하나님께서 그의 필요한 모든 것을 충족시키실 수 있다는 것을 발견했다. 그래서 바울은, "내게 능력 주시는 자 안에서 내가 모든 것을 할 수 있느니라"(빌4:13)라고 요약하여 말하였다.

[As he abandoned himself to the meeting of the needs of others, he discovered that God could meet all of his needs. He said in summary, "I have strength for anything through him who gives me power"(Phil.4:13)]

바울은 이론을 제시한 것이 아니고 경험(발견)을 제시한 것이다.

(Paul was not presenting theory but discovery.)

그는 하나님의 완전한 은혜에 의하여 공급되지 않았던 어떤 필요를 갖지 않았다는 것을 알았었다. 바울은 그가 주장한 말의 완전한 증거로서 자기 자신을 내세웠다. 그는 하나님은 자기의 필요를 그토록 온전하게 충족시켜 주셨기 때문에 그들(빌립보의 그리스도인들)의 필요도 충족하여 주실 것을 알았다.

[He had discovered that he did not have a need which had not been supplied by the perfect grace of God. He himself stood as a completed testimony of the claim that he had made. He knew that God could meet their needs because God had so completely met his.]

둘째는, 바울의 말엔 영감이 있었다.(there was the inspiration of Paul's utterance.)(즉 바울의 말은 성령의 말씀이 였다.)

바울은 그 말을 뒷받침할 경험이 없었더라도. 또 어떤 기록의 준비(공급)가 없었더라도, 그 사실은 진실이었을 것이다.

(Had there been no experience to back it up. no provision on record, the fact would have been just as true.)

성령께서 이 믿음의 말을 바울의 마음에 불어 넣었기 때문이다.

(The Holy spirit had breathed into Paul's heart this utterance of faith.)

그는 하나님을 위하여 두려움 없이 말하였다.

(He was speaking without fear in behalf of God.)

그의 기억 속에 생생하게 울리는 것은 자기 몸의 가시를 옮겨 주시기를 구했을 때 하나님께서 하신 말씀이 였다. "내 은혜가 네게 족하다." 이 선언이 바울이 간구하던 기도를 찬양으로 바꾸었다. 그래서 그는 "이러므로 도리어 크게 기뻐함으로 나의 여러 약한 것들에 대하여 자랑하리니 이는 그리스도의 능력으로 내게 머물게 하려 함이라"고 말했다.(고후12:9)

[Ringing fresh in his memory was what he had heard God say when the removal of the thorn was sought, "My grace in sufficient for thee"- that declaration transformed Paul's pleading prayer into praise, and he said, "Most gradly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmity, that the power of Christ may rest upon me"(2Cor.12:9)]

셋째는, 하나님의 불변의 성품이시다.(there is the unchanging character of God.)

온 성경은 하나님의 세상 안에 존재할 수 있는 모든 필요를 충족시키기 위한 온전한 하나님의 능력의 기록이다.

(The whole Bible is an unimpreachable record of the ability of God to meet every need which can exist within his world.)

그러므로 하나님의 능력으로 돌보시지 못할 정도의 상황이란 없다. 그래서 야고보는 "그는 변함도 없으시고 회전하는 그림자도 없으니라"라고 하였다.(약1:17)

(There is no situation that is great than his ability to care for. james presents him the God "with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning"(Jas.1:17)

참으로 약속(언약)의 능력은, "나의 하나님이 하실 것이다."라는 하나님의 능력에 근거를 두고 있다.(빌4:19)

[The power of the promise, "My God shall", rests with the ability of God!(see Phil.4:19)]

(4) 언약의 범위(The dimensions of the promise)

"나의 하나님이 그리스도 예수 안에서 영광 가운데 그 풍성한 대로 너희 모든 쓸 것을 채우시리라"(빌4:19)

[But my God shall supply all you need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus"(Phil.4:19)]

이 성경 절(빌4:19)의 구문은 공급(supply)에서 필요(수요, need)를 향하는 두 방향이 설정되어 있다.(two direction ... from the supply and toward the need.)(영어구문은, "my God shall supply"라고 하여, 먼저 하나님의 공급을 앞세우고 있다.) 즉 하나님이 우리에게 주실 수 있는 공급의 범위(규모)에 관한 언약을 주신 것이다.

① 하나님은 "너희의 모든 쓸 것!"(all your need)을 다 공급하신다.

그러면 "너희의 모든 쓸 것"은 얼마일까? 그 분량은 모두(몽땅)이다. (The measure is All!")

하나님의 공급능력이 미칠 수 없는 최고한도는 없다. 하나님은 모든 필요를 다 떠맡으셨다.

(There is no maximum beyond which God's ability to provide cannot go. God is commited to every need.)

② 하나님은 풍성하시다.(God is abundant)

하나님께서 모든 필요를 충족시키겠다는 공약(언약)은 - "영광 가운데 그 풍성하신 대로"- 하나님의 방대한 자원에 의하여 후원되고 있다.

(The commitment to meet every need is backed by God's vast resources... "according to his riches in glory")

우리가 부를 측정하는 유일한 방법은 우리의 경제의 용어에 의한 방법이다. 그러나 실재적인 부는 보이지 않는 세계에 있다.(참고절: 히11:3 ; 고후4:18)

우리의 의미로 등록하고 평가하는 것들은 가장 무상한(덧없는) 것들이다.

(The only means we have of measuring wealth is terms of our economy. But in the unseen realms are the real riches. The ones most fleeting are those our senses can register and appreciate.)

③ 풍성한 대로(according to his riches) 채우신다.

영어에 있어서는 "according to"(에 의하여, ~에 따라)와 "out of"(...부터, 에서)는 같을 수도 있지만 그렇지 않다.(같지 않다.)

예컨대 두 사람이 다 백만 장자인 경우 A는 어떤 복지 사업에 1000만원을 기부하고, B는 1억원을 기부했다면 그 돈들은 다 그들(A와 B)에서 나왔지만(out of), B는 그의 부에 따라(according to)기부한 것이다.(B gave according to his resource.)

"나의 하나님은 너의 모든 쓸 것을 그의 풍성한 대로(according to his riches.) 채우시리라"는 말씀은 "out of" 보다 "according to"에 더 강조점이 있다.

세월은 20세기가 흘러갔다.(왔다가 갔다) 수 많은 제국들이 망했고, 거대한 부의 왕국들이 고대 속으로 사라졌다. 그러나 영광 가운데 그 풍성한 대로 필요를 충족하여 주신 하나님의 능력은 조금도 이즈러지지 않았다. 세계 경제들도 왔다가 갔다.(즉 한 때 번영했던 모든 경제들은 쇠멸되었다.)

우리가 만일 시저(100-44 B.C.)의 시대에 살아서 그의 왕국의 위대함을 볼 수 있었다면 우리는 그 왕국이 멸망할 날을 상상도 못했으리라! 그러나 그 왕국은 멸망했고 땅의 만물의 길(성쇠의 법칙)을 갔다. 바울은 참으로 바르게 말했다. "보이는 것은 잠간이요"(고후4:18)라고.

시저의 궁전과 그를 계승했던 궁전들은 부서져 버렸다. 대 제국들의 돈궤(금고)들은 비어진지 오래다. 위대한 왕조들의 영광은 사라졌다. 그러나 하나님의 모든 종류의 거대한 부의 공급은 조금도 마르지 않았다! 하나님은 지금도 영광가운데 풍성한 대로 모든 필요를 공급하고 계신다. 지금도 분명히 넘치고 있다! 주님을 찬양하라!

[Twenty wide centuries have come and gone, empires have crumbled, vast kingdoms of wealth have disappeared into antiquity, and God's ability to meet needs according to his riches in glory has not waned one whit! World economies have come and gone. Could we have stood in Caesar's day and viewed the greatness of his kingdom, we could not have imagined a day when that kingdom was no more! But it fell and went the way of all things of the earth. Paul was indeed right when he said, "The things which are seen are temporal"(2Cor.4:18). The palace of Caesar and the palaces of many who have followed in his train are pulverized. The coffers of great empires have long since been emptied. The glory of great dynasties is gone, vanished. BUT GOD'S VAST SUPPLY OF RICHES OF EVERY KIND HAS NOT BEEN DRAINED ONE IOTA! He still supplies every need according to riches in glory! Evidently, glory is still full! Praise the Lord!]

(5)언약의 처분(처리)(The disposition of the promise)

언약의 마지막 말은 "그리스도에 의하여"이다.(The last word of the promise are "by(or in) Christ Jesus.") (이것은 영문 구절의 배치 순에 의한 설명이다.)

그런데 원어인 희랍에서는 둘 다 같기 때문에 이것이 "by" 인지 혹은 "in" 인지 그 절대적인 확실성이 없다. 그러나 이 애매성은 오히려 축복을 더하는 것같다.(The ambiguity may add to the blessing!) 그것은 그 중 하나 일수도 있고, 둘 다 일수도 있다. "in"인 경우에는 예수님은 하나님의 부의 창고(저장고)가 되시고, "by"의 경우에는 그는 하나님의 부의 관리자(집행자)가 되신다.

그래서 우리의 부는 예수 안에 있고, 그는 우리 안에서 그 모든 부의 관리자가 되신다!

[It may be either and could be both! In the one(in), Jesus is the depository of God's riches; in the other(by), he is the administrator of God's riches. Our wealth is in him, and he is in us the administrator of all that wealth!]

두 가지 가능성(both possibilities)을 다 살펴보자.

① "안에서"(in)로 쓰이는 경우

"그리스도 안에서"는 하나님의 모든 부의 위치(장소)를 의미한다.

에베소서 1장 3절은, "찬송하리로다 하나님 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지께서 그리스도 안에서 하늘에 속한 모든 신령한 복으로 우리에게 복 주시되"(엡1:3)

["Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who bath blessed us with all spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ."(Eph.1:3)]라고 기록되어 있고,

또 골로새서 2장 3절은, "그 안에는 지혜와 지식의 모든 보화가 감취어 있느니라."(골2:3)

[In whom are hid all the treasure of wisdom and knowledge."(Col.2:3)]라고 하였다.

이 두 경우에 희랍어는 위치(장소)를 의미하는 단어가 쓰여지고 있다. 작은 희랍어 "en"은 "in"(장소적 의미)으로 또는 "by"(수단의 의미)로도 번역된다.

[In both of these cases, the Greek locative is used, denoting location.

The little Greek word en can lither be translated in (locative) or by(instrumental) which denotes "by the means of."]

② "의하여"(by)로 쓰이는 경우

"그리스도에 의하여"(by Christ)는 하나님의 모든 부의 관리(집행)를 의미한다. 예컨대 골로새서 1장 16-17절은,

"만물이 그에게 창조되되 하늘과 땅에서 보이는 것들과 보이지 않는 것들과 혹은 보좌들이나 주관들이나 정사들이나 권세들이나 만물이 다 그로 말미암고 그를 위하여 창조되었고 또한 그가 만물보다 먼저 계시고 만물이 그 안에 함께 계셨느니라"(골1:16-17)

[For by him were all things created that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or power : all things were created by him, and him : And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."(Col.1:16-17)]

이 말씀(골1:16-17)을 요약해 읽어보면, 만물이 그리스도에 의하여 창조되고 그에 의하여 만물이 함께 서 있다고 한다.

(We read that all things were created by Christ and that by him all things are held together.)

희랍어 "en"이라는 단어는 이렇게 "의하여"(by)로도 쓰여 지는데, 이때에는 수단으로 쓰여지는 경우다. 위의 "by"는 "의하여"(by means of)의 의미가 된다.

"만물이 그에 의하여 생겨났고 만물이 그에 의하여 함께 서 있다"고.

("All things came about by means of him, and all things are held together by means of him.")

또 에베소서에선, "교회 안에서와 그리스도 예수 안에서 영광이 대대로 영원 무궁하기를 원하노라 아멘"(엡3:21)이라고 쓰여 있다.

(Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.)(필자주: 영문 성경의 "by"를 유의할 것)

이때 "by"도 희랍어 원문은 "en"이다. 수단적 의미로 쓴 것이다.

즉 영광이 하나님께 오는 것은 그리스도에 의하여서다.

(It is by the means of Christ that glory shall come to God.)

그러므로 그대가 이 요절(빌4:19)에서 그리스도 예수 안에서(in Christ Jesus)라고 번역하면 그(예수)는 그대의 부의 "창고"가 되고 "그리스도에 의하여"(by Christ Jesus)라고 번역하면 그는 그대의 부의 관리자(집행자)가 된다. 그러므로 우리의 부는 그(예수 그리스도)안에 있고 또 우리의 부는 그에 의하여 관리되고 있다.

(If you translate it "in Christ Jesus," he is you depository. If you translate it "by Christ Jesus," he is your administrator. So our riches are in him, and our riches are by him.)

요약 :

(가) 언약의 방향(언약을 받을 사람들)은 이미 다른 사람의 필요에 반응했던 사람들에게 향하는 것이다.

(The direction of the promise is to those who had already responed to others needs.)

(나) 언약의 동력은 하나님의 무한한 능력에 연결되고 그의 무진장의 자원에 의하여 뒷받침된다. 즉 "나의 하나님이 채우시리라..."라는 말씀에 의하여서다.

(The dynamic of the promise was linked to the unlimited power of God and is backed by his limitless resources. "My God shall supply...")

(다) 언약의 범위는 "모든 필요와 영광 가운데 그 풍성한 대로"이다.

(The dimension of the promise are "all need" and "according to his riches in glory.")

하나님 아버지가 주실 수 있는 무한한 능력은 그 자녀가 살아가기 위한 풍족이 된다.

(The Father's infinite capacity for giving is his child's adequacy for living.)

(라) 언약의 처분(처리)은 그리스도 예수에 "의하여" 또는 그리스도 예수 "안에서" 처리된다. 예수님은 하나님의 부를 처리할 수 있는 유일한 분이다. 그는 샘물의 흐름이고 그 샘의 근원이시다.

(The disposition of the promise is "by(or in) Christ Jesus." Jesus is the one who makes disposition of the riches of God. He is both the fountain's flow and the fountain's source.)
